the dems in congress are just going to give whistle-ass his 87B,
aren't they? :(

none of the dem leadership has stepped up to ask the chimp 'are you out of your mind?!' when he presented to outrageous demand. some have whined a little about attaching some 'accountability', but be we all know that's just empty rhetoric cuase there no way to keep track of that much money.

haven't heard any dems say, 'no fuckin' way'! to this collosal waste of resources.

of course, maybe i expect too much. the dems didn't stand firm on 2 ruinous tax cuts, and an immoral invasion.

why should i expect them to show spine on this latest attempt to bankrupt this country and mortgage it's future.

history will not be kind to the denizens of either side of the aisle for their performance during the shrubco coup.

1. Of course
You don't think they're going to take those pink tutus off now. Actually they can't.

Can you imagine the Republican stink machine if the Senate Dems were to vote against that money?

"Democrats don't support our troops, they're unAmerican"

"Democrats want to lose the war on terrorism"

etc, etc.

8. where does doing the right thing come into this?
why not do the right thing? if dems lose some elections, well, the blame for what happens nexts falls to the repooks.

why is going along when it's the wrong thing to do preferable? what purpose is there of being an 'opposition' party, if they never oppose the other party. i'm not talking about a couple of federal judgeships, BFD. i'm talking about vast some of money, the moral and finacial future of this country, and mass murder all over the globe.

17. Is the right thing to leave Iraq in ruin to prove a point to Shrub?
I dunno? I am not saying hand over the $$, but I think these issues are more complex.

23. only a fraction of that money is to rebuild iraq
most of the money will be used to consolidate US military power and presence in the mideast.

this is about doing the right thing. with-in definition almost any action could be construed as making a point to the moron.

2. Yes, they will, although
I believe it will be watered down a bit to appease the public. But, most Dems believe we have a responsibility to bail out Iraq and will go along with the repugs. If only we could get some polls to show how unpopular that would be, it would help sway some votes, but still the repugs are in power.

3. Yes, ultimately...
It does provide congress a little political leverage. They should be able to get some answers from the neocons, I think. In the end, from a PR standpoint, they have to give in.

4. The Dems have replied and did in their debate
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 10:51 AM by Starpass
it's selective listening that's at work. They have said they will give him what it takes for the troops but they are going to go over him with a fine toothed comb about the rest of the bullshit. In fact in a direct question to Kerry, Kerry said if this guy doesn't present answers, doesn't get UN help, and doesn't present an exit strategy so we know where we are going with this, he will vote against it. That's basically what they all said. If they denied him we are dead in '04 because they will point to it as leaving the troops unprotected. But they are making a stand on the "reconstruction" money that is going into Haliburton and the no-bid process.

12. this ain't about the candidates.
and the accountability and strings crap is just a smoke screen.

the 87B is funding for something deeply wrong, and nobody is bring up how the wrong will be righted, just how will it get paid for.

5. I think it will be hard for the dems
to deny Bush the money since some of it is going toward support of our troops over there. But they could put alot of strings on the money. I heard Ted Kennedy suggesting that last week. I wonder if they could put Bush on a withdrawal schedule and only authorize enough funds to transition and get our troops out in, say, 6 months. They also ought to require all contracts to be bid.

it would also be the right thing to do.

just like for the war resolution - when does political expediancy stop being the sole criteria for how decisions of this magnitude are made?

9. A number of Dems have been critical but unfortunately the 87 bil is
being presented to the american public as needed for troop support which puts the Dems between a rock and hard place. Basically Bush Co has pulled another one of their underhanded tactics for getting their way. If Dems don't vote to give the money Bush Co are basically saying their not supporting our troops in a time of war.
Junior used a similar tactic in his speech when saying it is the international community's duty and responsibilty to aid in the "peacekeeping" efforts in Iraq.

15. During the Congressional Briefing with Military Families to End U.S.
Military involvement in Iraq on Sept 10 (video found in C-Span) representative Maxine Waters (D, CA) and two other democratic representatives present at the hearing PROMISED to say no to the 87 billion. But I don't think democrats really have a chance to prevail on this.

but why should a single dem show any kind of endorsement of such immoral strategy by voting to give the moron this money? and why isn't the wrong-headedness of the occupation of iraq being brought up daily and loudly by dem leadership.

25. let your reps know your views
How do we really know what's going to happen, who knows if they've even decided. It could be that part of what influences them is the feedback they get from constituents.

So far I haven't heard a lot of definite yesses or nos. I think in addition to Dennis, that Jim McDermott has said no. But I think most of them are thinking hard, maybe they're coordinating a strategy on what to try to get out of Bush in the exchange. I've heard reversing the tax cuts is a possibility for example.

37. I see it differently than you
What you're describing is knee-jerk opposition, and if that's their job then their job could be done by a monkey.

My representative and Senators are no monkeys, even the republican Senator, fortunately, so I they actually think about every single vote they cast. When I do express my views to them they always thank me profusely, and I think it's sincere, because they do need to know what their constituents think.

if they don't *they* will be the reason we lost the invasion war. I mean eventually somehow or another when they finally get the point they aren't wanted there and never, ever, ever will be and leave it's going to be our fault anyway but if you don't hand W his money to go piss around in Iraq with it will happen right now and give him a bulletproof escape route and a scapegoat.

32. Listening to the Midnight Dems
speaking in any empty House, to go on record, gave me some hope a few days ago. They said the $87B was bullshit in Congress-ese.

Also listening to Senators Kennedy, McCain (!), and Byrd (he said Congress is not an ATM) interrogate Wolfie about the invasion gave me a little more hope.

But, I need a lot more hope. I am hoping that during the recess, when all of the Congress people went back home and listened to their constintuents, they got more than an earful about our true economic woes.

Combine that w/the flood of emails they all received after whistle ass' request, maybe it will be voted down.

Maybe?

this money has nothing to do with 'rebuilding' iraq in. haven't we learned anything about the true motives of these criminals? the RW couldn't care less about bring 'democracy' to iraq. RWers abhore democracy!
