Jobs: Better to be a white felon than black
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 03:30 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
This dissertation received an award. The author set out to discover how incarceration effects the ability to get a job. While incarceration did negatively effect all applicants, what she discovered was that a black applicant with NO felony record had a more difficult time than even a white felon.

So...will all the anti-affirmative action folks please explain this?

4. wrapping racism into affirmative action - and viewing
that from an entitlement perspective - as in - I -should be entitled to x or y.... and if I dont get it, it must be due to AA and someone else. Thus to be able to remove the barrier, one has to believe that the root problem that AA was set out to address has been "solved".

Often that thread can be seen woven into various discussions related to denying racism as an active and persistant problem in our society.

9. one of the researchers was U of Chicago
was a depressing report - as it shows that there is so much more progress that still needs to happen.

8. i am for Affirmative Action
because racism still exists.

there was thread recently in the Civil Rights forum about a Fed. Suit(forget what branch ruled) that reversed the hiring of black applicants over the whites- they brought the suit because they whites scored higher on the required test.

i'm sure the white males wanted to blame Affirmative Action but there is something else to consider here, higher test scores don't necessarily make you the better choice in hiring. like University applications, test scores are only a part of the total students 'package'.
