Just returned from Truman day dinner.Harold Ford Jr stated in his speech that we would know after Wed. if we would have another candidate in the race.Wesley Clark was present and keynote speaker at this event, alon with Al Sharpton. They both were great.

17. LOL Wouldn't put it past them
Expect some big news stories out of the WH on the day Clark announces, to try and steal his thunder. Maybe a Saddam sighting.

2. Most of his support appears to come from Lieberman Supporters
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 11:04 PM by rabid_nerd
I see..

"Next, I'm going to read a list of people who may be running in the Democratic primary for president in the next election. After I read all the names, please tell me which of those candidates you would be most likely to support for the Democratic nomination for president in the year 2004. . . ." Names rotated

6. I don't know
If Clark isn't in, I'll support Dean. If Lieberman were to end up the nominee I would need a shot of Thorazine before I went into the voting booth.

12. Just a query
But how can you swing between two such disparate candidates? I mean, Clark is Repub-lite, untested as a politician (generals don't typically make good presidents...) and too easily rattled. I understand the Lieberman point tho.

Uh, that would be a "No." He's pretty progressive. THe generals we've had for president have been ok. Ike didn't wreck the country. MBA Bush sure is, though.

If he doesn't run I'll probably vote for Kucinich.

I just worry about him holding it together more than anything else. In my mind I keep seeing that clip of him on the phone outside of CNN looking like a deer caught in the headlights. I'd prefer to see him as Dean's VP if he has to be there looking pretty in that uniform.

19. Context please
That is one clip I seem to have missed. What was it about? Who was he talking to? Why were there cameras on him while he was on the phone?

I've seen most of Clark's TV appearances and he does really well. He had Sean Hannity's knickers in a twist and that was sweet indeed.

I think it's more than just a shift from one to the other.

As to Wednesday, I caught wind of that from the Draft Clark people earlier today, so that's two sources.

3. How is that sexy Harry Ford??
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 11:06 PM by tjdee
Did he talk about your run of the mill Dem stuff, or did he have a special focus?

Still single, I see :loveya: (yeah yeah, shallow shallow, but dang, I'm a young single gal in Harry's age range, it's Saturday night and I'm posting on a message board, LOL, give me a break!)

Aww MAN, though, that means Edwards' announcement is going to be steamrolled over by Wes the next day. Oh well.

My dream tickets were Gore/Edwards till 2008, Edwards/Ford then...

Maybe we'll get O'Malley/Ford someday. Or Ford/O'Malley!

He's going to be around for awhile, Harry Ford, methinks. He's got a lot of ambition.

I'm sure he'll get married at some point too. :-(

18. Ford is the favorite Democrat of Fox news pundits. He dissed Pelosi
when they contested for the house minority leadership position. Yes, that young snot needs to grow up.

20. Well, Pelosi isn't that cool either.
I never understood the DU adoration of her during that period, and currently she "stands shoulder to shoulder" with the pResident on at least one issue and hasn't done as much progressive work in her new position as DU insisted she would.

And, Ford made a good point that Gephardt/Pelosi being old school, which I agreed with.

I think his attitude could deal with some minor adjustments, but he goes on FOX because he's got some issues with trying to appeal to all sorts (he is after all from TN)... he's young and sometimes it shows, but I don't think he's as snotty or immature as you imply.

25. "he's young and sometimes it shows" a sign of "immaturity" perhaps?
IMO, Ford's behavior during the Pelosi debacle was "pouty". He was visibly peeved and acted ungraciously.

I had heard Wesley Clark was going to announce on the 19th of September if he was going to run or not! I wonder why it would be Wednesday and in what venue?

This is something I'm interested to get a look at. I know that he's reasonably comfortable on tv, in interviews... but I wonder how he's going to do out in the field, speaking, connecting with voters, etc.

24. It was pretty damn good
Shapton opened up with an officer and a gentleman theme.Clark followed up stating he was an officer and then took his jacket off and said he might not be much of a gentleman tonight and then he ripped into Bushes record. And he did it in a way not disrespectful to Bush, but decisive.

28. Ha! I love that!
"...took off his jacket and said he might not be much of a gentleman tonight.."

I have to say, I am firmly for Dean, but I am going to LOVE having Wesley Clark in this race. He is going to do some serious Bush ass-kicking!

And as for the post that referred to Clark as Bush-lite, that's just uninformed. Just because he's a General doesn't make him a right-winger. His views are quite progressive, at least what I've seen.

I enjoy a tiny bit of theatricality like that. People remember things like that.

Sharpton started off with an officer and a gentleman? Was he introducing Clark, or?? Just wondering in the back of my mind how the dynamic was between the two....

34. Sharpton and Clark
I have been concerned about Clark's ability to appeal to many black voters. But with Sharpton introducing him, Rangel urging him to run and Clinton standing ready to campaign for him, he might have a shot with the black electorate. I hope the General sits down, thinks this through, and comes up with a heartfelt strategy for wooing and serving black voters.

36. Didn't he grow up in Little Rock during integration of the HS?
I'm sure he can speak to that, I think he already has. And the military is integrated to a large degree, I think he can come from a pretty good position with black (and other minority) voters. He also filed an amicus brief on the UMich affirmative action case.

He'll have no problem with this black voter (though currently I'm still committed to Edwards).
