Poll question: what's your issue?
Electoral politics becomes an all-or-nothing game at key points. What particular issue(s) get(s) you up in the morning?

(Sorry to lump #6 like this...only so many choices for polls)

I'm a #8, fwiw.

the Supreme Court
This pretty much covers all of the issues. It's why I can vote for Lieberman with a semi-clear conscience, and it's why I cannot vote Green in clear conscience.. I end-up seeing on the ballot:

__Stevens
__Scalia

That's how the vote breaks-down for me.

5. Many are important:
the environment
the economy
labor issues
etc.

but the issue that gets me up in the morning is public education.

*End high-stakes testing.

*End unfunded mandates.

*End the blame game where the buck stops with me for every one of societies ills.

*Respect, budgetary and legal support, and pay us for what we put into the job; you might be able to attract a few teachers to teach the kids born this year.

That is the one that pushes my buttons the most.

Again: It's sexual ORIENTATION, not preference!!

14. Many issues are important to me, but ...
if I had to pick one issue it would be EDUCATION.

You can't have a democracy without a reasonably well educated electorate.

That includes all the conditions that make education effective and successful, like respect for the profession, freedom to teach in ways that work for the teacher, adequate funding, no compulsary textbooks, no compulsary uniform testing.

I also include the ongoing lifetime education one gleans from the MEDIA. The media must be diversified with a good dose of foreign sources, free of the constraints of consolidated corporate ownership. All of the conditions that make that kind of media possible are a part of my answer too.

15. BBV and Taking Back Our Country
which means revitalizing our democratic process, sense of community, and "liberal" politics (by which I mean, in this context, anything on the left).

Everything else is really secondary, even as important as so many issues are. If we get it right -- we the people taking back our country -- we can handle everything else. Otherwise, we're lost.

26. All of the above, and quite a bit more.
I have never been a single issue voter. I believe all of these things mentioned and several others are crucial, - including the environment, the current state of democracy in U.S. and civil liberties to name just a few.

Important to state, however, that I don't expect to find one individual candidate who can, - even if elected- satisfactorily resolve all of my issues to progressive standards. Politics is and always has been an ongoing battle for the betterment of society. You get what you get, the rest you keep working for.

At the same time, is there not a point of diminishing returns? Stopping the bleeding is the necessary first step, but only the first step.

This could encompass foreign policy/fair trade, whatever. I support charitable choice programs and oppose the Iraq war, the death penalty, and "partial birth" abortions.
