ISABEL/civil preparedness??? (are states ready?)
I remember hearing a number of reports about National Guard being so decimated by overseas deployments that they would be unable to respond to a major disaster.

well, that major disaster looks like a pretty sure thing right now.

any LOCAL news regarding civil preparedness?

has the chimp screwed the American people in his pursuit of Iraqi oil and Halliburton profits again?

shouldn't disaster preparedness be part of homeland security?

will * link ISABEL to Saddam (or Clinton?)

this story, unless there is a miracle and the storm does NOT hit the eastern seaboard, is going to have a political angle if billions are needed at HOME and if the homeland response is insufficient...

(hope everyone stays high and dry!)

1. good point...
I'm in NY and I haven't heard any reports about "what if"... If this is as bad as Hugo or Andrew, then some areas will be in very bad shape. And a visit from Bush will mean nothing...they should rename this one "Georgie Girl"...

2. i'm in NYC and don't expect anything more
than a really intense rainstorm...

but, with the path projected to hit in Chesapeake Bay... I just wonder if they have the NG, and other resources (not to mention the $$$) again, if the American people see their protection being set aside for BushCo oil profits......

3. yes it was discussed
here this last winter and spring that some eastcoast states ran short of people for snow removal, state police, and other governmental funtions. with very few guard members coming home till next may some states will be short staffed. other units from other states will prob. have to be called into service for the eastcoast. this storm may track north into the ohio,pa., and into canada which could cause severe flooding...

4. Vision
Can't you see the Tidal Basin of the Potomac completely destroyed? All those beautiful Japanese Cherry Trees uprooted? Massive flooding in Alexandria and along the GW parkway? The National Mall under water?

If this thing wedges water up the Chesapeake it's going to be bad and Virginia and Maryland, much less D.C. don't have the state budgets to handle it.

But Whistle-ass will probably head for Texas and who cares about all those peasants anyway.

5. Is DU Prepared?
I mean if the offices are located in D.C.:
(A) Isn't there a good chance the Server is too?
(B) Will the communications lines hold up to the storm?

7. You might want to post your question in the A/T/A forum
The admins may not be able to answer the question but they will see it in that forum.
