Something BIG is Going On in California beyond Recall.....
This is obviously something over and beyond just the recall.

Something BIG is happening - and I have the feeling that it is a "Goldmine." We wouldn't see Clinton involved in it otherwise.

We have every major Dem. in the country there. Clinton, Gore, most of the 2004 Dem candidates are there. Kerry's top guy Chris LeHane (and former Gore Campaign Spokesman) just quit Kerry's campaign probably to spend more time in his role as an advisor. James Carville, McAuliffe, Jesse Jackson, Cuomo, Donna Brazile John Kerry Most of Gore's ex-campaign people are not currently working working on campaigns and are out in California.

My theory (perhaps it's wishful thinking on my part) is that this is a lead up to a Gore run for President!!!! If not that than a lead up for SOMEBODY.

In his fight to keep his job, Mr. Davis has turned to many of the advisers who helped him win the governor's office in 1998, as well as reaching out to former President Bill Clinton and to Senator Dianne Feinstein of California.
The governor's roster also includes nationally known consultants like David Doak, his advertiser; Paul Maslin, his pollster; and Garry South, a strategist.
It is no accident that Mr. Davis's supporters have portrayed the recall effort as another Republican move to steal an election they could not win. Several of Mr. Davis's advisers once worked for Al Gore.
"We are particularly motivated by the fact that this is merely a continuation of what we saw in Florida in 2000," said Chris Lehane, who was Mr. Gore's spokesman.
When the recall was announced, Mr. Lehane was working for one of the Democratic presidential contenders, Senator John Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts. But he now splits his time between the two campaigns.
Working with Mr. Lehane here is Mark Fabiani, another Gore strategist. Both are veterans of the crisis management team in the Clinton White House. And both worked for Governor Davis in the California energy crisis two years ago, prompting an outcry because the governor had put them on the state payroll.
Mr. Lehane and Mr. Fabiani are advising the California Federation of Labor, the coalition of unions that forms the governor's bulwark against the recall.
Mr. Ragone, the governor's spokesman and another Gore alumnus, said the Davis campaign had also asked the Democratic National Committee to send in Ann Lewis, a onetime Clinton adviser.
"She's helping organize national surrogates and giving basic counsel and guidance," Mr. Ragone said. "She's been through a couple of wars herself and is a highly decorated veteran."

1. Jane, you are seeing just how important we are to the Dems
and that is it. No other agenda out there that I'm aware of.

Its just we have this huge bunch of dems prepared to give the state to Howard Dean ( presumptive nominee) or whoever the nominee is, aND WE DON'T WANT THAT FUCKED WITH.

5. I think you're right. The Dems are not going to lose another big state
to Republicans, and have probably realized they have got to come out in force.

2. You mean they are all there now? Or they've come through CA recently?
Gore said point blank he is NOT running. Why would he do that if he fully intended to run.

Could this be about Clark? I know Clark was supposedly there visiting Spielberg (though I don't know if he's still there).

But you're right....there does seem to be more going on than just the recall....unless the Dems are making a special effort to prevent California from going Republican.

11. Gore wasn't here today, 9/15/03
He was at Johnny Cash's funeral.

He may have been here recently though. All I can vouch for is today.

Davis is also scheduled to campaign this week with other prominent Democrats, including Al Gore and several of the 2004 Democratic presidential candidates.

4. Listened to an extremely lucid Canadian report on this today via
Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 05:22 PM by Gloria
shortwave......only three judges of the entire circuit ruled. All three appointed by Dem presidents. The circuit is the most overuled of all the circuits. It can either go to the full circuit OR to the SC....which is not in session until October...

The reporter read one of the last paragraphs of the decision, which he said was clearly a political statement...It was about how as the US tries to show the world how great our democracy is, it's up to the courts to make sure the election is fair .(All my wording, but that's the gist of it.) The reporter said there's a lot of politics in this decision. Recalled the 2000 election with the chads vs. the electronic machines, with the punch cards all in the poorer areas....hence, unfair.

No doubt in my mind....all the high profile Dems are in there to make this national....

7. No. This has nothing to do with gore. This is about the POWER of BILL
clinton.

He's dick swinging, sure. But when BC calls, you come running. This is a power play to trounce the gop and send them a REAL message about NOT fukcing with us.

BC is a little bored, and is flexing his muscle.

I think it's brilliant. It truly shows the power behind this guy, and I just love it.

I'd like to see him run for CA gov when Davis has completed his term.

9. repukes are targeting both CA and TX
which are also huge states with lots of electoral college votes.

if the repukes can gain more power in those states, they will be more likely to win a prez election, whether or not they mess with Florida.

it's about power.

14. A lot of TOP Dem advisors are WAITING for SOMETHING
Most of Gore's former campaign people (and the TOP Dem advisors/campaign people) are working on this recall and are not working on any of the Dem candidates campaigns. The fact that Donna Brazile has not signed on to anyone's campaign says a lot to me. Chris LeHane quit Kerry's campaign today.

SOMETHING is going on.

What exactly - I'm not sure. These advisors are waiting to all sign on for somebody's campaign. They're not going to sit this one out.

It's Clark, Gore, Hillary, Biden - someone else.... But NOT Dean. This speaks volumes IMHO.

20. Diebold memos: Feb 2003 -- rewriting software for RECALLS
How many recalls are in the game plan, folks? The Diebold memo stash has the software engineers querying how many states can do recalls, and as of Feb 2003 they indicate that they plan to rewrite both GEMS (County tabulating software) and Ballot Station (touch screens at the polling place) for ease of doing recalls.

Just wondering.

Bev

I just wish she would get tapped for VP. She is one incredibly sharp cookie. Takes no guff and knows her shit well. She makes all Red Ink Republicans squirm in their seats when she is around.
