Tucker's Latest Meme PROVES Repigs Are Idiots
Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 06:26 PM by stopbush
Today on Crossfire, Tucker Carlson and Ed Gillespie floated this trial balloon: if the punch card machines were good enough to re-elect Davis last fall, why are they suddenly no good for an election scheduled to be held next month?

Setting aside the fact that Davis was, in fact, RE-ELECTED last year, it's simply amazing that these fucking assholes STILL don't bother to think things through before spouting them. They don't even bother taking an initial step in the direction of thinking it through!

If one was to follow TC's "logic," slavery would still be OK, women wouldn't have the right to vote and any incumbant running for office wouldn't have to bother since the results - and the way those results were obtained - were "OK the last time." Hell, why not bring back poll taxes - they were OK for decades!

Why oh why can't repigs understand that THINGS CHANGE? It's called RIGHTING a WRONG. It's called PROGRESS.

This isn't the 1950s...this isn't even the 1980s or '90s. Get used to it, Tucker!

In the case of CA's punch-card machines, they were basically de-certified after the last election as being too unreliable and error-prone. The machines aren't accurate and must be replaced by March. But, according to Tucker, when it comes to innacurate, lousy voting machines, two wrongs must surely make a right!

Do they actually believe this shit, or do they just parrot the talking point memo from Rove without using their brains for anything - except to avoid soiling their pants while on TV?

Like I said, fucking idiots.

1. McClintock was saying same + "even during the Civil War
we had elections"
Of course the problem is that the machines are defective and not enough personel to staff the polls for THIS election in particular - but then we know GOP hates elections!

4. You knew they were expecting this
Although I couldn't believe I was hearing McClintock when he spewed that bit about voting during the Civil War (I think Judy Woodruff couldn't believe he was tossing that kind of shit out either).

Where to begin about this lame meme:
-Half the polling places open for this recall vs. all of the polling places open and fully staffed last November when we held the governatorial election
-Ballot of 135+ candidates for a statewide post (versus some bullshit floated by McClintock about a regional election with multiple candidates that was held 'successfully' with punch card balloting -- I think it was for some board of supervisors???).
-Multiple languages (depending on the district, ballots are available in ~ 6-8 other languages besides English)
-Punch card voting impacts upwards of 44% of the eligible voting population (the disenfranchisement of more than 40,000 eligible voters when the outcome could be potentially decided on a very small plurality was more than the District Court of Appeals wanted to contemplate....)
-Punch card voting was de-certified after the 2002 election (as it was, fingers were crossed that the 2002 election wasn't any closer than it was...had Simon crossed the magic 3% threshold in any of the punchcard counties in CA, there would have been a recount on the order of FL, big time...the State got lucky there last year).

And of course, the two questions that they don't want to have to answer: WHY BE IN SUCH A RUSH TO HOLD THIS ELECTION WHEN WE JUST HAD AN ELECTION IN NOVEMBER 2002? IS THERE ANY ADVANTAGE TO HOLDING THE RECALL NOW?

CA Republicans aren't willing to admit that their horse can run the long distance, and they know that if folks are going to be showing up to vote in March 2003 for the Dem Presidential primary(and that their votes will be counted when they do), Davis will win the recall in a walk.

2. Tucker says Bush nanny Karen Hughes lies bordered on mental illness

Posted on Today's front page at www.mediawhoresonline.com

Tucker Carlson Sums Up Character of Bush Regime
Says Bush Advisors' Lies Border on the Mentally Ill
Says he Intends to Vote for Bush Anyway

And there's a link to the Salon story where Tucker admits Nanny Hughes tried to play him for a sucker.

www.salon.com/books/feature/2003/09/13/carlson/index.html

(If you are not a Salon.com member you can watch an add and get a free day pass to see the whole article)

TUCKER CARLSON: It was very, very hostile. The reaction was: You betrayed us. Well, I was never there as a partisan to begin with.

Then I heard that Karen Hughes accused me of lying. And so I called Karen and asked her why she was saying this, and she had this almost Orwellian rap that she laid on me about how things she'd heard -- that I watched her hear -- she in fact had never heard, and she'd never heard Bush use profanity ever. It was insane.

I've obviously been lied to a lot by campaign operatives, but the striking thing about the way she lied was she knew I knew she was lying, and she did it anyway. There is no word in English that captures that. It almost crosses over from bravado into mental illness.

3. Look up "self loathing" in Websters
and you'll see Tucker's picture.

After such shabby treatment, he still defends bush and plans to vote for him in '04.

I wish he'd have a epiphany à la David "Blinded by the Right" Brock and switch party affiliations by '04. But then he'd lose his spot on Crossfire, his articles in Reader's Digest, etc.

7. Plus Mommy will spank him.
Honestly, Margaret is just as confused, but not as forthright with her affiliation as her son; I'll give him that, at least.

5. This reminds me of...
George Will on This Week saying that Dean is a hypocrite because his supporters are pro-campaign finance reform, but Dean's campaign isn't following the rules that a new campaign finance reform law would create. What in the hell?

George Will is worse than Tucker Carlson. NO CONSERVATIVE takes Tucker Carlson seriously. HE IS NOT A THREAT; HE'S A COMEDIAN! I don't mind him. George Will on the other hand is listened to like how the the early Muslims listened to Muhammad. The conservatives think that the fact that Will looks like a complete geek makes his kill-all-evildoers ideology sound intellectual.

6. George Will is a very hateful individual
Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 07:05 PM by Woodstock
If you can manage to get a look at his eyes through the thick lensed glasses he wears to disguise them, you can see his pupils turning red and glowing when he hears someone saying something good about anyone but his master, the great W.

8. You'd enjoy reading "The Columnist: A Novel", by Jeffrey Frank;
Edited on Mon Sep-15-03 07:14 PM by Vitruvius
the title character is based on George Will -- and he is LOATHSOME, as he slimes, slithers, toadys and backstabs his way to the top. All without an original idea in his head. It's an interesting and funny book -- and as warped as the title character...

You may well find it in your local library; it's in ours...

Interesting how Mr. Will's personal & family scandals never made it into the mainstream press -- even when he was helping hound Clinton... (Tho' I'm told that one of the scandals in the book was taken from another Repug flack...)

10. Very simple answer to the question
No one sued to stop the election last time.

This time someone did.
