I have been lurking in DU for a few years.....I havent posted for a while, but it seems to me that there is a trend recently to freeperlike posts.

Example 1. a post from an obvious spoof site a la Betty Bowers/Landover baptist on creationism degenerated into name calling.
If you get offended by these sites, dont read em...tis simple.

Example 2. I often see posts where people express hatred or use the word 'hate' to excess. Maybe its because I am not American, but I find the concept of 'hate' to be used too loosely. You can detest, loathe, despise etc etc.but to HATE?..give me a break.

Example 3. People like Ann Coulter arouse very strong passions, but to say some of the things that people do about her in here is like reading freeper pages about Sen Clinton. Just accept she is a shallow GOP stooge and leave it at that....I doubt anyone takes her seriously anyway.

So there you have it.......get angry....get annoyed....but enough of the lunar right/left abuse. Save your energies for real political action, not mere ranting in DU.

1. Funny, the name calling was generated by the starter of the thread
So, if he got offended..maybe he should not have posted it. DU is a large community...and everyone claims to value free speech but GOD FORBID you use it to take someone to task ..then some people are not such big proponents of the idea.

2. Actually I think you have a point
I'm more moderate in my political views than many of my comrades on DU so I do often notice a visceral hatred of some viewpoints and even some candidates that seems quite overboard for my taste. I'm not sure loathe, detest, or despise is much better than hate though.

I can appreciate your point on people like Ann Counter, and I'd add some Dr. Laura as well. While they are loathesome people who deliberately icite hate and discontent from the ignorant masses, they are not "UGLY" nor do they look like "MEN" like many seem to assign in a derrogatory manner. That's just ... silly. Doesn't give me any heartburn either, but it's just dumb.

Religion is a sensitive topic around here, and is often deliberately used in a derrogatory manner as flamebait to tweak a reaction out of people who take their relgion seriously. Odd that someone supposedly "new" would come up with such an offensive post that so quickly turned "freeperlike", as you put it.
