The Mind Police in Colorado

On September 10, my local paper ran a story about the (unfortunately also local) crotchety old party-switching, public-avoiding, do-nothing Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell saying outgoing Republican Representative Scott McInnis should run for president of my town's college. I'm like OK, whatever. So the Nighthorse is still alive. Then I read on BuzzFlash that Governor Owens and "other Republican officials" had a meeting in June to discuss how to get more conservative ideology into the nation's colleges and universities ("Mind police are at it again in Colorado," 9/15). Yet another example of the value of internet news.

McInnis is not very well thought of in Durango, and neither is Nightmare Campbell. Nightmare stood on my Dad's porch and talked my Dad into voting for him. As soon as he won, he switched the the Republican party, the Bastridge.

4. Nobody seems to like the Frighthorse

Maybe that's why they keep sending him back to Washington. I sat next to him on a plane once and discovered he hates his job. So I tried to help him get a new one, but it didn't work. I think he secretly enjoys getting paid to sit on airplanes and tell people to buzz off.

2. The Rocky Mtn News and denver Post had articles last week.

I saw the first one on Fri. the 5th.

Yes, it is disgusting. The party that's against affirmative action, is now complaining that there's not enough neo-cons in faculty, and wants a quota system to ensure that their bankrupt ideology has fresh new brainwashees.

They can't accept the fact that their ideology fails in academia because it can't stand up to the scrutiny of close historical examination.

3. No, not a chance.

#1, I've never heard of college presidents being elected, they are usually appointed.
#2, Owens is term limited. I've seen lots of talk of McInnis running for Governor, which seems more likely.

I hope Gary Hart decides to run against Nightmare. I think he's about the only Democrat except Roy Romer who has the name recognition to win, and Roy Romer is in California now.
