Fury at California vote delay

Republicans in California have reacted angrily to a court decision that delays a vote on the future of the state's Democratic Governor, Gray Davis.

The Ninth Circuit Federal Appeals Court ruled that the ballot should be put off because of the risk that outdated and possibly defective voting machines would disenfranchise thousands of people.

The "recall" election - scheduled for 7 October - was triggered when critics of Mr Davis's handling of the economy collected enough signatures from voters.

Republicans are keen to regain control of the powerful state ahead of next year's presidential election.

Using the same reasoning, overturning the delay will help Republicans, therefore the Secretary of State should NOT be urged to appeal the decision.

Same reasoning Scalia used in Bush v Gore - recount would cause irreparable harm to Bush, therefore it should be stopped. WHAT - THE - FUCK???

6. Fury? Nothing like a little hyperbole

I live in California. I have not heard any reports of rioting or any acts that one might expect that would really indicate 'fury.' The repukes responses were predictable. What else would they say? And their friends in high places(SCOTUS) are yet to weigh in. October seventh is not free yet.

..they really are. Many a pundit in the last 24 hours has pointed out that Bush does not want that nasty "Supreme Court/Just like Florida/Here the Repukes Go Again association to start getting into the news in this lead up to the next presidential elections. McAuliff said that O'Connor is out of the country and thus Scalia would be the one "hearing it" (I don't quite understand that)and thus they are planning that it will be re-set for Oct.7th. However, I also noted that press who cover the Supremes said the 'word' around town is that they don't want to touch it. I guess being called political scumbags a few years ago hurt thier feelings--or it could be that they are sharpening up their 'ruling' skills for 2004 and don't want to tip their hand so badly in advance!!! Right now everything has gone terribly wrong for the repukes in CA and it's waves are spreading out over the country (they are going to rue the day they started this).
