Me and my Canadian friend
My Canadian friend is here on a work visa, and I sent him an article that someone on DU posted a while back concerning the lessons that the U.S. can learn from Canada. His response:

=================
I'm a little uncomfortable with the increasing amount of the media
attention Canada is getting in the last 5 years or so. You know
Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle?

"The more precisely the POSITION is determined,
the less precisely the MOMENTUM is known"

All of this observation could actually have a negative effect on
little old insecure Canada.

Just a thought. Thanks for the article. I just came back from a trip
to Canada yesterday, and you'd be surprised by how much internal
debate surrounds many of the current events referenced in this
article. For example, the lack of Canadian support for Gulf War II is
by no means unanimous. At least there is an internal debate though,
unlike here (lately).
================

And my response back:

================
I think the attention Canada is getting may be due to the fact that most Americans see their previously steady, sturdy country falling apart around them, and everyone's hoping Canada is going to help us out somehow. We can't depend on the people running our govt, because they're much too busy looting the store to care about the rest of us. The Americans who are angry at Canada are like the schoolyard bully who picks on someone who turns out to be a lot tougher than he thought, so the bully (U.S.) turns to his best friend (Canada) and says, "Hey, let's kick this guy's ass", and the friend tells him to take a flying fuck. Then there are those of us who see Canada as a beacon of sanity and reason, sort of like the kids whose crazy drunken father can be talked into putting the gun down by their favorite uncle. I hang out on democraticunderground.com quite a bit, and moving to Canada is a big topic of conversation by the liberals who hang out there.
================

My question to DUers is, do you agree with my assesment, or do you see American attitudes toward Canadians differently than the pictures painted by my pathetic little metaphors?

1. Canadian support for the oil wars
Came primarily from the Alliance, our local Freepers. They're primarily American wannabes who hang around to take advantage of Canadian social programs.

2. I think agree with your assessment
Especially this part:

"I hang out on democraticunderground.com quite a bit, and moving to Canada is a big topic of conversation by the liberals who hang out there."

I think I was just arrogant about and ignorant of
Canada pre-Coup2K. And now I'm envious of them.
Well, I'm envious of any civilized country that
hasn't been Bushwacked.
