Extremism In The Defense Of Civil Liberties Is No Vice
Time for a rant!

John Ashcroft's dismissal of concerns over the constitutional damage wrought by the "Patriot Act" as being "hysteria" and "hyperbole" caused me to spit foam at the TV!

This is of course exactly what you would expect when these creeps attempt to defuse any criticism of their authoritarian gobbledygook.

That is one of the chief tenets of propaganda, belittling the opposition with condescending jargon. Paint the advocates of civil liberties as being nuts or extremists prone to fits of hysteria, and other loaded words.

The right-wing excels at this. Small wonder coming from the faction who adamantly opposes the very existence of the ACLU.

What unmitigated gall!!! I want just one minute face to face with this lying mound of raw dog poo!!!

Legitimate grievances abound with the Patriot Act and its sequels in the works. Let's show him that the only thing hysterical or hyperbolic about all of this is his fearful hostility towards those who dare speak up in favor of the Bill of Rights.

I am just so mad, I can't even articulate my rage. Damn me for watching CNN today!

4. Yep
The right is basically trying to portray those who criticize the act as traitors; as raising false images of lost liberties.

But two points; these sorts of acts build over time. By the time we have a long catalog of Justice Department Evils, it may be too late. Secondly, you don't have to be liberal to oppose the patriot act--look at the Cato Institutes articles on this subject. They've been filled with a lot of sense.
