Is the election just a formality in the new, militaristic America?

We can fantasize all we want about the 2000 election, but remember that Bush is more or less a dictator, we'll see that next year.

Bush may have some tricks up his sleeve. He could pump M4 shells into the head of some Saddam look-alike a few weeks before the election. He could let a national tragedy happen (his cronies could even orchestrate one). Maybe his control over the media is too strong to let Democrats have a chance.

AND even if he wins, justice won't be done; and that bothers me. Sure, the GOP masterminds will be displeased; but Bush has probably already made his money from Iraq, the contracts are already secure. He won't be impeached, as Graham suggested he should be, he won't be tried for war crimes as Milosevic is, and Bush makes Milosevic look like John Lennon.

1. Think of it like a "quality circle" at the office

It really helps people to be able to just vent a little bit, whether it's about making the department run more smoothly at work, or their opinion about who should be President.

Most people know that management really isn't going to DO all those things that get suggested, but just being able to get it off your chest and have someone nod and look interested can really make a difference in morale for the vast majority of employees.

Same thing with the voting classes. They go down, push, punch, pull, or jot and feel like they are a part of things.

No real change in policy is necessary.
