So does Voinovich too, though. But I think DK is running for president because he believes that America knows it is heading in the wrong direction, and he is the only one with a plan for another direction.

the campaign will help his name recognition even more, and it will certainly help his fundraising ability in (and out of) Buckeyeland. With the mass exodus of manufacturing jobs OUT of Ohio during the Shrub Regime, Ohio all of the sudden looks vulnerable for the righties in 2004. I've believed for a long time, that if a Democrat wins Ohio, then he wins the WH. A good Democratic showing in OH would only help Dennis' chances. Besides, as far as I know, he's the best singer out of all the candidates.

i'm sure he knows he would have a harder time in a presidential run than others but i think he is serious about what he is doing, but a tthe same time he has other options later on. i think it's a good thing. would love to see him or someone like him in the senate. especially since the loss of paul wellstone there is an emptiness in there. not that kucnich would be his replacement, but just that there needs to be more of those voices in the senate.

maybe he is running because we wants to have an impact on the direction our country is going in... at least that is what it sounds like when you listen to him.

7. While I believe he is running strictly for the office of President

I think in the end (no offense to diehards), I believe that the longer he stays in the race he will begin to demonstrate within the party (and without) that the liberal/progressive wing of the party is not to be marginalized - that it is a real force within the party. Through the 1990s certain voices (such as Wellstone) were marginalized (as not representing much of anyone). I think that Kucinich is setting the stage for a resurgence within the party (which is not good for the Greens whose ranks include disenchanted dems). His prowess (based on how long he stays in the race) will make the party begin, once again, to live up to recognizing the parts of the broad tent it represents.

Come to think of it - if he does not succeed with his race (and his support doesn't seem as deep as some of the other candidates) a race and win in the Senate would push the cause of progressives within the party as a real force (as it used to be) within. Now that would be interesting - given that back when we had numerous progressive Senate voices - one of the best was also from Ohio - Sen. Metzembaum.

If you're going to post a question about someone, at least have the courtesy to spell his name correctly. It's not as if his name hasn't appeared COUNTLESS times on DU.

a lot more sense than him being dumb enough to actually think he has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the nomination, because I know he's not dumb.

but I also don't think DeWine can be beat. But if Kucinich does and he'll try, go for it. This will help with his name recognition too.
