As others have advised, I'd opt for the questioning route when talking with the youngsters. In my few years on the planet, I've discovered anyone to the right of me can't generally maintain support for their position under close scrutiny.
I think it boils down to how do we choose to spend the governments money. I favor spending it on people first, things second. Most of my right wing friends are the opposite. They are terrified everyone will become welfare slackers drawing a check and sitting on their ass.
