unsubstatiated report that Cheney is off the ticket!
According to my politico friend:

That's what the fundraising circles are buzzing. This morning in a tea
fundraiser it was intoned that Lynn had decided that for health concerns,
they decided they would spend time with their children rather then the
"grueling" campaign.

Whether or not this happens or not, who knows, but apparently quite a few
big named fundraisers openly gasped and now the three major fundraising
cliques on the internet are full of buzz.

Guess we'll be finding out soon enough (to be announced at 4 pm EST. Of course, those of ya'll who say it's just to get the news off of Clark could be right. We'll see.

1. It would also add some excitement
to the Bush Camp--I doubt they will announce a new VIP, but watch whoever they select to head the finding committee. They might follow the Cheney model and select themselves.

Maybe he'll get one of those Encarta programs that are so popular. And as for his speeches, he can always buy them online. Those Term Paper places are always looking for new avenues of exploitation.

Nuts and rats. I think it might actually better though for Cheney to stay. He is going to be an albatross when all his Halliburton/Energy task force finally begins getting full disclosure.

they need to prop Bush up some way and Cheney is becoming a liability. If he goes my guess is that the pressure will be on Rudy or Colin to replace him.

60. Good guesses.
Either one brings a lot to the party. My bet's on Rudy, if he goes along with it. Can't imagine him playing second fiddle to anyone, though. I always thought his real reason for giving up the Senate run, where he was probably a shoo-in, was because he would only be one of a hundred Senators, and couldn't get his way. He's got to be the big fish in the little pond, because he just can't work with people. Even the NYC Council had to sue him to see his budget. It would kill him to sit in a Congressional bargaining session.

I never liked him-- he's been a megalomaniacal publicity hound ever since he was a prosecutor. He did get that aura of heroism hanging around the WTC for weeks, and acting like he was the cop, fireman, or ironworker actually doing the work, and everyone seems to have bought into it. He's got a reputation as a take-charge guy and national adoration after 9/11 but arrogant prick is more how I see him.

I'd be very afraid if he's on the ticket. Very afraid. He could push the Shrub into a win, and while Cheny is a smart crook, Rudy the Righteous is yet another one with God on his side.

9. I'm guessing no
He said it would happen in October, and would be of direct benefit to Howard Dean. If Cheney drops off the ticket, this would be of direct benefit to every living, breathing American and citizen of the world. It would also be a colossal admission of guilt, from which a great deal of mileage should be gotten by the Democrats!

74. Only thing, though - better the devil you know.
What if they yank dick (EEEEEEEEEEUUUUWWWWWWah! What a concept!) and replace him with Rudy or somebody more palpable. Having Giuliani on the ticket would be a body blow to us Dems. That would NOT be good at all. Plus it would bring good 9-11 cred to these schmucks. Everybody loves "America's Mayor" - remember?

That would NOT be a good thing. I wouldn't be popping the champagne corks yet by any means! Better for us if cheney stays. Let's hope the PNAC and Carlyle cabals think so, too. He's their main man, after all... and chimpy's marionette master.

48. I think he said it would directly benefit
all dems (and make DU happy), but that it might also help Dean. I think the clarification was that it was not something that was a direct connect to Dean.

You are right - whatever it is was to happen in October.

Telling me not to count my chickens...when YOU were the one who claimed they'd run Powell against Kerry in '04??

Wouldn't that be counting your chickens, when you claim Kerryt will be the candidate??

Methinks you need to point that finger elsewhere.

on edit - by the way...where did I say that Dean was the winner? All I said was that Kerry would finish third. Which he just might.

Maybe he'll take Arnie on as a running mate. Hell, that's about as much thought as his supporters put into who their voting for.

A good choice would be Swartzkoff (sp).

If anything, this should scare people even more since I think most of them feel Cheney is the "brains" behind the operation anyway.

They are arrogant (ala - who else are folks going to vote for)... but his DAD lost in part due to a third party candidate, I don't think they would do something that would encourage some southern ultraconservative to play Ross Perot (but pandering to the religious right). I fear that the GOP has pandered to the basest part of some voters (re: prejudices), instead of pushing those voters to mature and begin to accept diversity. That pandering would bite them in the butt if they nominated Condi.

83. It wouldn't be a bad guess, because
they'd think they were playing to African Americans AND women - two groups where even the rethugs recognize and admit they have serious weaknesses. So on the SURFACE this might look good to them. Problem is, CONdi has as much liar baggage on Iraq as cheney does, PLUS having dropped the ball bigtime on 9-11, so I'm not sure it'd work out so well for them in the long run. At least I hope it wouldn't. I think minorities and many women would see through it for the pathetic, plastic ploy it would be.

Senators Trent Lott and Christopher J. Dodd, Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, hosted a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda on September 10, 2003 to unveil a marble bust of Vice President Dan Quayle. Vice President Dick Cheney and President George Herbert Walker Bush were the featured speakers. Vice President Quayle, his family, and more than 300 guests attended. The bust is the latest addition to the Senate’s Vice Presidential Bust Collection, which was created in 1886 to honor vice presidents of the United States, whose duties include serving as Presidents of the Senate.

Senior House member from Southwestern Pennsylvania
first elected in February 1974.

Ranking member on Defense Appropriations subcommittee.

Although he rarely speaks on the House floor, he is one of the most important House powerbrokers. When the House is in session, he sits in the Democratic back corner and other members come back and talk to him.

So if Murtha wants Rummy gone, it's a big deal.

Bringing him in as VP would be a lovely example of bipartisanship. (Also, a way of removing a nominal Democrat from the Senate.)

Then, if things got worse for W & he stepped down*, President Leiberman would surely be most generous with the pardons.

... such a move wouldn't surprise me. I figured that once Clark declared, making real the possiblity he could be on a Dem ticket (probably as Veep), the GOP would make a counter move -- ie, Cheney, not the most charismatic guy in the world, would remove himself for supposed "health reasons" to conveniently make way for the GOP's military face -- Colin Powell.

85. Remember ROVE runs everything political
so there is this dem they were dismissing - who is showing up everywhere... raising money... and suddenly getting tons of press... even repub pundits start murmuring about underestimating...

then there is this very popular general dem - also with great appeal - both with potential crossover appeal (moderate and indys)

and a full other race - that you thought would be lifeless - but instead numerous candidates keep building support and war chests.

What to do... Cheney is a growing liability.

But WINNING is everything...

WHO would nullify the maverik crossover vote.... who on the repub side has demonstrated mass appeal...

Yep - I bet Rove is pushing John McCain (and I bet it is driving Jr crazy - as he doesn't want to have to deal with McCain's magnetism as compared to his own).... so who wins the tug of war... Rove or George?

95. You know, the more I think about this, the more I don't buy it.
This is the kind of annoucement you make in April, not in September, over a year away from the election. This is the kind of announcement you make to knock the Democratic Primary winner off the front page, not "newbie" Wesley Clark.

An announcement like this, at this time, would only make Bush appear as a worse leader than he already does... wouldn't it be a huge question to folks that Dear Leader chose such an unhealthy guy as his Veep? Taking Cheney off the ticket is a negative, and it's not something that's going to help Bush's poll numbers.

I'm not buying it. I do think it'll happen, but not until it's clear who the Dem nominee is...

96. Watch the feet
It's interesting that Rumsfelt and Rice got the new propaganda script (that there was no connection between Iraq and Sept 11) but Cheney didn't. No one in the mass media would have noticed Cheney lying unless Rump and Rice had contradicted him.

This administration is usually extremely effective at ensuring that propaganda updates are fully propagated among members of the cabal so there's probably some bigger plan at work for why Cheney spoke out of step. If he is dropped from the ticket then it is very likely that blame for Iraq will be shifted onto his shoulders to protect the rest of the cabal.

http://famulus.msnbc.com/FamulusIntl/reuters09-17-131252.asp?reg=MIDEAST

The White House appeared to distance itself on Wednesday from comments by Vice President Dick Cheney that left the impression he saw a possible link between Saddam Hussein and the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
''We've said all along that there's no evidence to suggest that that we've seen,'' said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

By Steve Holland

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House appeared to distance itself on Wednesday from comments by Vice President Dick Cheney that left the impression he saw a possible link between Saddam Hussein and the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

"We've said all along that there's no evidence to suggest that that we've seen," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

Cheney, interviewed on Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," had left open the possibility of a Saddam link to the attacks.

Democrats have accused the administration of creating a "false impression" at the heart of a widespread U.S. public belief that Saddam had a personal role in the attacks.

Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 04:10 PM by davsand
We won't face shrub. Look for a "moderate" Repub that the guys behind the curtain can control. THAT is who will go into Unca Dick's slot.

Shrub was never intended to go this far in the term, but 9/11 carried him a lot further than they expected. Unca Dick was a sick old man when they sent him to DC to keep shrub in line. He's been pretty patient with his charge all this time, and now it is time for him to get some well deserved rest...

Ridge was the guy, I thought for a long time. Now, I'm not so sure. Jeb is the annointed one, and it does have that nice Bobby Kennedy thing going on if (------- insert deity here) forbid, anything bad should happen to martyr the chimp.

Either way, they have GOT to do something awful quick or else they have to ride shrub all the way to the polls--and I don't think they can risk two obviously rigged elections back to back.

Yep, it is just about time for Unca Dick to either step down for health reasons or else go room temp. I'm kinda glad in a way that they are letting him exit in an upright position. I'd hate for that nasty old coot to die in office and be spared seeing the whole mess tumble down.
