Although Clark has never held elected office, his views on a few key issues are known. On 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' he told NBC Meet the Press host Tim Russert on June 16: "I don't think it works. Essentially, we've got a lot of gay people in the armed forces, we always have had, always will. And I think that... we should welcome people that want to serve."

he was freaking NATO chief and he's in favor of gays serving openly.

I would be surprised if too many of the career military were strongly against allowing gays to serve openly. They've been around and they know what kind of damage the witch hunts do to the military.

It's the civilian leadership that has kept these rules in place. I think with Clark as president, you'll get the civilian leadership and the military leadership to fall into line.

I think that there will be a big push for him to overturn DADT and the ban on gays in the military altogether. I don't see any of the other candidates having the clout to do it.
