Gertrude Clark is surprisingly charismatic
I was looking forward to seeing how she deported herself and I was elated to see that she would be a fine First Lady; attractive, genuine, friendly. Have no idea how she sounds, but, so far, excellent First Lady material. Would love to know more about her background if anyone is knowledgeable and forthcoming.

9. you mean there's one who's not?
I guess I have a kinda knee-jerk reaction to the whole "First Lady Material" thing. I'm electing a Pres, and while his wife can certainly be labeled an asset or a liability by the media, I frankly don't give a fried fart. And no one else who cares about the substance of the candidate should care either. First Ladies, historically, are supposed to be window dressing. Hilary broke that mold and paid dearly for it, with the media. The Brits broke that mold with (shudder) Margaret Thatcher, but we're STILL talking about women as "material". I mean, is Carol Mosley-Braun even married? If so, is her husband "First Husband Material".

I don't mean to get on some kind of feminist high-horse (okay, well, maybe I do) but it's this kind of stuff that makes me wonder if we'll ever take women seriously enough to elect one as Pres.

It's late. I need to go to bed.

12. Hey, could I have the recipe for "fried fart"?
Anything would be better than my husband's "oven-roasted" ones.

5. lol..
Theresa Heinz is one of the main reasons I wouldn't object to Kerry presidency. I think she's way cool. Outrageous, filthy rich and speaks her mind. My kind of gal.

6. I like Theresa (sp.?) also
I have not seen much of any other candidates' wives. After having a "stepford wife" First Lady for the past two and a half years, Gertrude really struck me. She stands out in a crowd and I was really surprised at how much I liked her with just that short time I saw her. None of the other candidates wives have overly impressed me, besides Theresa Heinz Kerry. I didn't mean to sound elitist, but I miss Hillary and her great way with people. I was anxious to see what The Great Clark's wife was like. Just wondered if any of you had formed any opinions. Thanks, all of you, very much for replying to my post.

8. that's what john kerry LOVES
what you find scary about teresa is probably what john kerry loves about her. he says he finds the things people criticize her for to be sexy. he was asked once about how he is going to "shut her up" and he said he does n't want to do that. that he wants others to see and hear who she is. i loved it when he said that, and i hope to see more or her also.

11. Yeah, I though that was charming too.
He really said the right thing as far as I'm concerned. I love her spontaneity. I like the fact that she is her own person and is, obviously, a powerhouse. She would be a great First Lady. I don't support her hubby, though. I like him, just have question marks in my head when I think about him. Certainly none there for her, though.

14. Nice name, Gertrude
I saw her briefly on the news, and liked her right away. I also really like John Edwards wife alot, and haven't seen kerry's Theresa yet, but I think we're all looking for some kind of magic feeling, like in the Clinton-Gore campaign when things really took off. That can happen, but it hasn't happened for me yet, and I don't see Wes Clark pulling that off, or if he did, one of those rightwingnuts would take him down, no doubt.
Maybe we are better off without somebody so polarizing, and just stick with Kerry or Dean, and a southern veep.
