Cheney is a goner.
Cheney is their fall guy. Even Chimp is trumpeting the line that there is no Iraq-9/11 connection, Cheney was still sticking to the original script as recently as Sunday. Only the most pathetic hard core Freeper is going to buy the line that there was no intent to deceive. Anyone with half a brain who was misled knows he was tricked regardless of how they are spinning it now. The new “no connection” story couldn’t have reached the public yet, but they got the $87b message loud and clear and support for the war is tanking. When the real depth of the deception sinks in there won’t be any hope for resurrecting the war support.

Enter Cheney. That the media finally reporting that he still gets payola from Halliburton which leaves the correct impression that he is a war profiteer. Then there are those ugly energy policy documents: Cheney has cleaned them as much as possible but even the sanitized versions must be horrible.

The Supreme Court is unlikely to bail him out simply because there is a limit to the number of opinions they can render and limit to a single appellant on the grounds that they like him politically. The Court is now going to have to overrule itself on Bush v. Gore or delay the California recall so the real consequences of granting political favors from the bench is starting to hit home.

If he weren’t so despicable you could almost feel sorry for him.

1. that new bunker he built should keep him alive for a few hundred years

Halliburton will keep him in corn beef hash for some time to come. He must have 4 cyborg hearts on standby in his broom closet.

2. Feel sorry for him? NEVER!
I'm just glad the accusations against him and the revelations of his Halliburton ties and war profiteering, as well as his prominent role in perpetuating the WMD and Iraqi ties to 9/11 are finally being taken seriously by the lapdog media.

And even if he is, indeed, the fall, guy, he'll have his mega-gazillions to console himself with.

You really think they'll sacrifice anyone? Seems to me they just do as they please.

6. How does someone without a conscience act?
In his own self interest at all times. The only pain he feels is his own and the ability to rationalize knows no bounds. Yep, if that’s what is needed Chimp would throw Cheney.

8. I agree.
He knows were all of the bodies are burried. The only way they can get rid of him is by giving him a dirtnap.

14. BFEE SOP: In Iran-Contra Bill Casey went under the knife...
... for his sudden case of brain cancer and never spoke again. After the surgery, Bob Woodward paid a nice visit at the hospital and got the DCI to nod "yeh" a couple of times to a few questions for a book about Reagan and power and a few days later Casey was gone. Then, all the blame for Iran-Contra and Who did What to the Constitution was Casey's fault.

Poor Dick Cheney. Lynn knew this was going to happen.

9. actually a stroke and subsequent paralysis would be better --that way
he gets to stick around and suffer the consequences of his greed and can still be brought up on charges, if there is anyone around willing to charge him with crimes against his own people.

I could never feel sorry for Cheney----he is an evil , calculating , greedy man whose position in the government of the United States has brought him more money. He neither respects that postion, nor does he think he must follow any path of moral or ethical responsibility to that position.

10. Even if Cheney steps down has VP
doesn't mean he's really giving up power. Him and Perle will just relax in their bunkers and control the world from there.

13. Is it because Wilson may name him for outting the Mrs?
That would make him the perfect fall guy for all the evil the misAdministration has accomplished. They have to make somebody walk the plank before public campaigning starts next year. By using a scape goat, they will run around touting they have cleaned house and things will be different from now on.

Of course, a person resigning doesn't seem to prevent them from operating and influencing things. Think back to how happy we were about a resignation at DOD advisory panel, yet the Wolf is still among us and we still have Perle with the swine. Cheney out of office might just be more dangerous than having him somewhat in the light.

15. Does he still have executive immunity as a civilian?
I was picturing him being subpoena'd by a grand jury investigating 9/11/01, the Energy Policy papers, whatever. He might be more dangerous to the administration if he leaves or is heaved, tho we know he has a "weak heart". Bets on his survival if VP "Dead Meat on a Stick" steps down or is pushed down?

:nopity:

17. Until now Executive Privilege did not even extend to the VP.
Cheney is trying to claim it to keep the details of the energy meeting secret but he hasn’t had much luck. It is my understanding (and I could be wrong) that to the extent that there is a privilege at all it is limited to Presidential deliberations. Hillary didn’t have it in health care, Cheney says there is a difference between his situations and Hillary’s because he is an elected official, but he hasn’t had much luck extending the privilege to the VP in the courts.

Even assuming the Supreme Court does apply the "Republican Exemption from the Rule of Law", it and extend the privilege to the VP in the energy issue it wouldn’t help Cheney criminallly. The purpose of the Privilege is to facilitate open discussion not to conceal criminal acts.
