2. Nobody!
Except maybe some Greens.

Not trying to start a fight; just refering to Nader's rhetoric about how it "doesn't matter" which major party controls the White House

6. What else is the meaning of so many voting
in this admittedly nonscientific poll that the "best we can hope for" is heightened contradictions, perhaps leading to revolution? At least 5 DUers voted for that. Did they misinterpet the question? Do they have a hope that a Democrat can better heighten the contradictions than Bush? Or are they merely without hope that anything better than heightened contradictions will result from the next election?

13. I'm (not so) secretly wishing for Bush...
to be the Republican nominee in '04 so the democratic nominee can kick his a** back to his fake ranch in Crawford, TX.

How's that?

I'm not a violent person, but I don't know what I'd do if I met a real Democrat who would like to torpedo the '04 Democratic nominee.

There is too much at stake to set up anyone for '08, I don't care whose wife she is.

18. Well, if you listen to talk radio,
There's a lot of us wishing for Bush to win in 2004. That's because we know that Hillary will have an easier time getting elected when she runs in 2008 against a non-incumbent. Wee ALL wish for that. Really we do! Sean Hannity told me so.

19. I don't "wish for Bush". But I do fear for a Democratic Administration.
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 01:44 PM by Atlant
Here's my nightmare scenario:

  1. A Democrat gets elected President.

  2. But the Republicans continue to hold the House, Senate, Supreme
    Court, and the Media.

  3. Holding the other four branches of Government, the Republicans
can assure that the Democratic President is a dismal failure. At best,
he simply completely fails to deliver on any of his campaign promises
and the country runs further off the road and into the ditch. In the
more-probable course, a few "terrorist" attacks help foster that
general impression of the President's "failure". At worst, a few
cooked-up scandals end up with the removal of the Democratic
    President.

  4. After this "latest in a long series of Democratic Failures" (which
must be true because we'll all have read it and seen it on all the
blabbing-heads shows), the Democrats won't be elected to any office,
even dog catcher for decades and decades to come.

I'm afraid my nightmare is pretty plausible, even if we win back a
slim majority in the House and/or Senate because the Republicans
will still absolutely hold the Supreme Court and the Media, so as
long as the Republicans have a sizable presence in the House and
Senate, our goose is cooked.

And that's why I might not be disappointed to see a Republican
President reaping in 2004-2008 the whirlwind that this asshole
Republican President has sown.

33. That is why . .
. . the dem candidates should switch over to promoting the importance of congressional and senate positions that will be opening up.

They should say . . "everyone can see now that this is a corrupt liing administration that has really damaged this nation - domestically and internationally. So we have to be sure that dems get the congress and the seante in order to have a decent chance at correcting the damge."

That should be their focus from now on IMHO.

37. You're exactly right
Winning the White House is critical. But we also must focus on electing candiates to Congress.

I wonder where the Soros funding is going. Is it targeted to congressional races as well as the defeat of Bush? I'd love to see some of the big donors step up to support local candidates. It is so important for the new president to have a shot at working with Congress in order to undo the damage the radicals have wrought.

20. Seeing how far we've come in two years
what makes you think there would BE an election in 2008 for your hoped for stragegy?

Or that the world as we know it would still exist?

Better wake up before it's too late. Bad enough we didn't all hit the streets in Nov 2000. But to hope for worse than what we have now because then everyone would see the merit of your position, that's just WACK.

24. I appreciate that.
I'm aware the vote can be skewed. I was a little surprised by the number of heightened contradiction votes, but I'm aware that there may be a reason for it beyond its reflecting a proportionate amount of Trotskyists among the DU population as a whole.

As alarmist as it sounds, there really will be thousands of lives riding on next year's presidential election. As much as I hate the "vote Democrat no matter what" sentiment, I'm going to have to adopt it next year.

Well... I won't vote Democrat if they nominate Sean Hannity as the candidate... but failing that... yeah. :P

32. Yes - the "diehard" members of the Nader cult
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 02:00 PM by janekat
I'm not saying the "lukewarm" Nader supporters - but the brainwashed ones - who are practically cult members are.

What most of these people don't realize is that Nader is more sympatico with the Republicans than he is with the Dems. He's never been a Democrat - used to be a Goldwater Republican - and never joined the Green Party.

He met with Grover Norquist, Schlafly (sp?), took money from the Pubs.

If the Dems get into power - he no longer matters. He cannot stand being out of the spotlight. This may be sub-concious on his part - but if you look at his actions I'm afriad that's the only conclusion you can come to.

When my Dad (a vehement anti-union businessman AND Republican) started to smile when I brought up Nader in 2000 I knew something was up.

53. Yes
because, after all, if there was no difference between Gore and Bush, there's no difference between Clark or Dean or Kerry or Hillary and Bush. SO why vote for one of them when you can vote for Nader and MAKE SURE * gets another term, but the Nader voter gets to think that he/she is righteous for not voting for either of "identical" candidates. :eyes:

I would hope that even Nader voters can now see that there is a world of difference between even the most mainstream DLC candidate (or even, dare I say it, a moderate old-style Republican) and the current Administration which is nothing short of a fatal threat to our civilization and way of life.
