Poll question: Who Is The Worst Secretatry Of State In The Modern Era?
My vote goes to Colin Powell.... He is a total sell out .... Espousing policies he doesn't believe in....

Al Haig, Henry Kissinger, James Baker et all believed in the bulls--t they were peddling...

11. Al Haig
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 12:22 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
said he was in charge after Reagan was shot*. He also ignored the Constitutional route of succession... He also gave a green light to Sharon to invade Lebanon...

George Schultz was your garden variety conservative...

James Baker said "fuck the Jews, they never voted for us" while discussing Middle Eastern policy in a Cabinet meeting... Jack Kemp dropped the dime on him...

I'll leave it to other DUers to give a bigger picture..

*Al Haig was the opposite of composure that day... He was shaking like a leaf...

4. Actually--it's a hard choice
Kissinger--crimes against humanity

Powell--sell out and part of the regime that destroyed US credibility in the world for generations

Albright--when asked about sanctions that the UN showed killed 10's of thousands of Iraqis--and whether they were worth it--responded "yes"

8. I believe he was a replacement
for Cyrus Vance, who left the position over a principled disagreement with Carter.

6. Colin Powell Should Get More Votes
In Dante's Alighieri's rings of Hell the lowest wing of Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in a time of great moral crisis....

Colin Powell should have resigned when * pursued a war Powell opposed....

If Cy Vance could resign after Carter used a l-i-t-t-l-e force to get our hostages back Powell could have resigned after * colonized an entire country....

10. Powell still hasn't risen to Kissinger's heights of depravity
As far as I know, Powell doesn't have to consult with a team of lawyers before leaving the country to see if he's been indicted for war crimes in whatever country his destination is.

Personally, I'd like to see someone ACCIDENTALLY rerout his plane to Santiago someday while he's sleeping, and then just leave him there.

12. Now I know I'm gettin' old.
My first thought was "John Foster Dulles."

Since Dulles isn't on the list, I'll vote for Kissinger.

14. If Worst = Most Immoral
or worst for the country, then it would have to go to Kissinger. If worst equals least effective, then it would have to go to Powell.

15. Powell is a Peacenik!!
Of course, he is scum,
But I believe that Powell does believe in Pax Americana just like the others...
and sure he is traitor like Kissenger (selling TOWs to Iran)...
But I give the edge to Henry--he is still considered a Saint by most and Newt isn't hassling him...
