Anybody here sticking with Dean depsite Clark entering the race?
I somehow feel like a little lonely by the onslaught of Clark supporters in here. Please make yourself known, loyal Deanies!

the lion's share of the posts are those smearing Clark with every nitwitted right wing smear they can find.

2. Please don't assume that!
Please don't assume that everybody who opposes Clark is a Freeper, right-winger or whatever. Why are you Clark supporters doing that?

And, frankly, I can't see why you've chosen to insert yourself into this thread that wasn't a smear on Kerry anyways. It goes both ways BLM...you want civility then you can knock it off with your anti-Dean crap.
To address this poster's question: Yes, I am sticking with Dean until he wins or drops out.

70. I think he'd love to have him as VP
But if it was the reverse - Clark/Dean - that would be a winner, too.

I'm into beating Bush. I picked Dean as the best candidate of the nine. Clark I need to hear more about before he can surpass Dean in my book. The bottom line is, why bash someone who has the potential to appeal to many people? Let's ride this out and see where it gets us. If Dean can oust Bush, or if Clark can oust Bush, isn't that what really matters? Both are good men. The only one I'm not happy about is Lieberman, and I highly doubt he'll emerge on top of the field. We should be happy to have such a strong field of people willing to help us take back our country. I wish at some point the silly bashing would stop. True concerns, let's talk. Silly competative crap, cut it out.

despite the fact that I like Clark, too. I think the race will ultimately come down to those two, but I think Dean will eke out a win, mainly because he's got a strong foothold in California. I'm guessing if Dean gets the nod, Clark will be his running mate. I believe this is why the two met last week: to discuss the possibility of one choosing the other as their veep. Also, I think they negotiated a cease fire, which would explain why Dean went after Kerry today (calling him Bush lite.) Clark sees Kerry as an obstacle and Dean helped him out by attacking Kerry.

...I'm sure his supporters have their reasons, some of which I've read, and I know there are plenty of Dean-haters out there as well. I deplore the conduct of many at this point, Republicans, supporters of just about every candidate out there, supporters of non-candidates, the DLC, one of the candidates... But I'm not letting all that brick-a-brack stymie me...

14. I go back and forth
Sometimes I think Dean, because I like his grassroots campaign. Although I am concerned by his being a fiscal conservative, because that is essentially the same as saying you are for cutting social programs (since Defense never seems to lose any ground).

Then sometimes I think I like Clark because he is a Clinton guy, and Clinton was the first Dem since FDR to be re-elected. A real political genius, and any dem he says is "one of the two stars of the party" probably has the potential to be as well. But then I remember: what did Clinton really do for the left in eight years? Balancing the budget was key, but then when the surplus came we got nothing from it.

Then sometimes I realize that the Democrats are just as wrapped up as the Republicans in this whole twisted mess we call politics. So fuck them both. Go third party. It is stupid, I know, but what can I say? I'm an idealist.

24. so far I'm very leery of Clark....
And not because of any RW arguments against his candidacy. Rather, as I've said elsewhere, Clark hasn't really yet addressed most of the issues that are most important to me, and I am not at all comfortable with installing a career military officer with no experience in civil governance in the WH. Still, I welcome his primary candidacy because frankly, a wider field will likely lead to a greater number of issues being aired.

I'm much more comfortable with Dean, although he's not my ideal candidate by any means. I'm much more liberal than Dean. However, his outspoken opposition to the invasion of Iraq at a time when many of his fellow democrats were stumbling over themselves to betray their constituencies and bend over for Bush* goes a long way for me. Although Clark has expressed opposition to the invasion, he was not nearly so vocal at the time (as I recall), and he was certainly willing to cozy up to CNN and their promotion of the invasion as the next best thing since the NFL. All in all too eager to be perceived as a professional soldier for my comfort.

37. Sure. Dean's the same candidate he was yesterday
an energetic, exciting leader with a strong record as governor, sensible foreign policy ideas, socially liberal positions, and a proven ability to balance budgets and expand health care coverage.

I have nothing against Clark and welcome him to the race. But I'm not going to switch to what is essentially a unknown quantity just because he looks good in a uniform. When I've heard him debate and gotten a chance to assess his positions, I might reassess (but I doubt it). I'm happy with my choice.

I think it's because the only thing he really has over the other candidates is foreign policy, and military backround. He's not more electable than all the other dems, and his stance on most of the domestic policy is almost the same as everyone else's.

IMHO I think he'd do better as a veep

47. Now more than EVER.
Dean looks better than ever and Clark is looking like a huge disappointment on all fronts but especially, as Tinoire said in another thread:

The problem with Clark is not his military service. We could care less about that. The problem with Clark is that he has troubling links to Acxiom, Jackson Stephens, Markle Foundation, the DLC and NDN, CSIS and comes pushing an agenda of Homeland Security.

It is those things about Clark that are a liability to the democratic cause.

Dean is my man for this race.

But frankly, Wesley Clark scares me....but then I remember that if Clark beats Dean for the nomination, it's still in my party. The Democratic Party.

And that makes me happy.

I may be sticking with Dean, but I just might send Clark a little cash. I'm donating to Kucinich on Sunday (I've been invited to speak at a fundraiser), so why not give to Clark too???

I don't think we've seen him stand the test of time and the RW slander that is about to begin. I actually found him to be quite soft spoken and frankly un-interesting? Perhaps I'll catch him again and change that opinion.

But, for me, it's Dean all the way! He and Clark share the same philosophies on most every issue. But, Deans experience in Governing a state is appealing to me personally. I have a better idea of what I'm getting.

My decision to support Dean was not a casual process like some prepubescent overnight crush on the latest pop star. I thought about it and studied and read and watched and compared and debated for months and months before my support was solidified. It was a weighty consideration not a flighty momentary flash in the pan. He has earned my ongoing repect with his demonstrations of political growth and courage.

He can count on me and my vote.

Clark is going to end up Dean's VP, so I'm not going to begrudge him some time in the spotlight. Once Dean's record 3rd quarter fundraising becomes public, Clark's time to shine will be over and it will be all about Dean's money again.

67. Well I'm not a Deanite but...
...the thing he has over Clark for me is that Clark seems to have the closest ties to Clinton and that pisses me off.

What I like about Clark is that he frightens the shit out of the pukes.

I'm the Dean, man - so that's what you call me - that or Deaner, his Deanness, El Deanerino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

69. Dean has revolutionized populist campaigning.
Clark has the backing of the establishment.

So far, it's not a very difficult choice.

83. So far, it's not a choice at all.
It never was for me.

I can't imagine what it would take to blast me away from Dean. Some humongous scandal proving he's not the man I thought he was, and I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen.

71. Yo! Dean is still my guy.
Clark looked good to me from afar, but since announcing his bid, all sorts of bad things about him have emerged....I don't think I could support a guy like that, but if he gets the nod, then I'll vote for ANYBODY but Bush.

74. Will stick with Dean, but will give Clark a long look...
He'll have to do some pretty amazing things to woo me away from Dean.

Clark is still something of a cypher -- I just don't have a feel for who he is yet.

A the end, though, I'll be supporting the Democratic candidate who runs against *, whoever that may be.

76. I'm still a Deanie.
I will vote for whomever goes up against bush. Certainly if it winds up being Clark, I'll vote for him. But for now, I'm still a Deanie.

And no reason to accuse Clark supporters of getting chocolate in my peanut butter. They may be two great tastes who taste great together!

79. DEANOCRAT
Yep. Don't think that Clark can pull it off. Never campaigned before. Never faced this political climate before. Doesn't have the infrastructure Dean has.

81. With Dean all the way, baby
I'm also beginning to have some doubts about Clark that I didn't have before after reading this letter from the Times UK that revently resurfaced at Sommon Dreams.

Most of it is just the usual puffery and "military speak," but this quote went way too far:

As for the political leaders themselves, President Bush and Tony Blair should be proud of their resolve in the face of so much doubt.

84. ARE YOU KIDDING? I admire Clark,
but I think he needs some more experience before running for president. He would make a fine addition to any administration, but he needs a little more time and experience as an executive.

What is this knee-jerk response, in power broker circles, to go military? Has our country decided that everything is military these days? Please don't misunderstand me--we will always need a strong military--but what are we becoming?

85. I'm sticking with Dean.
I've seen no reason to switch.

Wesley Clark can have my support if (and ONLY if) he wins the nomination. Until then, I'm confident that I'm backing the right guy.

Glad to see so many Dean-ites have kept their wits about them during the Clark onslaught of the past few days.
