Clark picks Donnie Fowler for campaign manager
Sorry if this is a dupe. The article is about Clark deciding to attend the debate in NYC, which we already know, but I thought the (unofficial) announcement about the campaign manager was newsworthy.

1. Ruh roh--BAD blood, Kerry and Clark, here we go:
"Mark Fabiani, strategist for Clark, said that Kym Spell, former New Hampshire press secretary for John Kerry, is joining the Clark press office in Arkansas. Spell, who quit the Kerry campaign this week, could not be reached for comment. Spell was deputy communications director for Al Gore's 2000 campaign.

Spell's departure comes one week after Kerry communications director Chris Lehane resigned. Lehane is Fabiani's longtime business associate."

Clark's getting a lot of Gore people.

2. Well, we know one thing:
With fabiani and Lehane in the mix, it won't be to likely that Clark will roll over for the repuke slime machine.

Once the candidates are decided for the general election, I really hope that the dem candidate makes 'em bleed every day. Lots, too.

while working in the Clinton WH, that's for sure.

5. More than that
It's an admission that Kerry can't overtake Dean and that Clark is the new establishment candidate.

I think it's just what the DNC wants. (And according to their longtime back up plan...Kerry-Edwards or Kerry-Clark)

Clark shifted the media focus away from Dean and onto national security and the Dems. Clinton said that the Dems need to win on national security. The media had only been focusing on Dean and the horserace. Mission accomplished.

There seem to be many shared figures and FOBs who are supporting either Kerry or Clark.

You may not have heard but, Marian Wright Edelman came out for Kerry. She is one of the Clintons' oldest friends. I don't doubt they conferred. David Wilhelm, another longtime ally in Chicago and former DNC chair also endorsed him. Others close to the Clintons are endorsing Clark.

I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Remember what Alterman said months ago. The DNC was grooming Clark to step in the VP spot if Edwards didn't catch on. Personally I think they counted him out too early, but, I think he may have been assured of at least Attorney General, and that is why he won't seek his Senate seat.

9. Fowler
Fowler grew up in the party. His father used to be the DNC chair. It's hard to tell how it will turn out but he it can't be forgotten that Gore got more votes than any Dem in history in 2000. So his field experience (Learning from successes and defeats) should serve him well. Also, being an ex field guy helps a lot because the problem some managers have is they don't understand the GOTV stuff.
