Schools told to give student names to recruiters

I found this article interesting about the loss of federal funds to schools who refuse to give recruiters the names of juniors and seniors for potential military recruitment.

My 16 year old nephew in Idaho has been bombarded with phone calls...now I know why!

And they call it a 'volunteer Army'....

1. That is truly outrageous

I don't have kids in school, but I remember when they were in their junior and senior year and they got all kinds of amil from the military. That's bad enough, but a woman at work who has young teens said that they had to put up a fight to keep recruiters out of the junior high!

2. Wanna know how to get them to stop calling?

They called me several times in high school to get me to come down to the old recruiting office. The last time I got any information from the recruiters was when I told them I wanted to be an interior decorator. No shit...it shut them up fast. I guess by saying I wanted to do something "gay," I "told" and violated don't ask don't tell. Maybe your nephew could stop the calls that way? In my case it wasn't really lying...I am interested in interior design and have in my past considered it as a career.

I will never forget a friends brother wjp starved himself to 79 pounds in order not to be enlisted in the Vietnam war. I will never forget the look on his face.

But back to topic, it is cruel and unusual punishment to deny schools federal funding unless they are subject to giving personal information to recruiters. This should be against the law!
