US troops killed as Bremer accuses Iran
By Patrick Bishop

At least three American soldiers died in attacks in Iraq yesterday as the US pro-consul in Baghdad gave warning that Iran should halt its plots to destabilise the country. Ambassador Paul Bremer, head of the Coalition Provisional Authority and effectively Iraq's civilian ruler, said that Iran, which has been watching the American occupation of its neighbour with mounting alarm, "continues to meddle in various ways in Iraq's internal affairs".

Their activities included "support for various people, some of whom have taken violent action against both Iraqis and against the coalition". Asked whether Iranians were suspected of possible involvement in shooting and bomb attacks, he replied: "There's certainly some indication of that, yes."

Iraqi terrorists ambushed a US convoy on a busy road near Khaldiya, west of Baghdad. Their vehicles were damaged by a mine and then gunmen fired on survivors. A US military spokesman said two soldiers were wounded but local reports suggested some died. Later three soldiers were killed in an ambush near Tikrit as they inspected a suspected weapons site.

Mr Bremer's remarks will cause considerable anxiety in Iran, whose rulers fear that they may be the next objective in President George W Bush's war on terror. ..

2. It should be noted ....
Iran is a semi democracy ... and with it's legacy as the "Persian Empire", it will not simply fall down and die when Rummy and His PNAC friends snap their fingers ....

That will be a bloody, ugly mess ..... and with troops stretched severely now in Iraq, you KNOW they will need to draft unwilling conscripts ....

Its ALL going according to plan ... right ? ...
