Who Knows the Clintons the Best
There is no shortage of articles suggesting that Wesley Clarks run is strictly so Hillary can run in 2004; Rush has been fuming at the mouth about this and so has Jay Bryant. But here's something to consider.

If you want to know the inner workings of someones mind do you go to someone who clearly hates your subject for insight?

I find it hard to believe that Rush has any inside information (even if he is pretending he does (which he does pretend that sometimes)). Jay Bryant's article was devoid of any proof as well (article here -- http://www.townhall.com/columnists/GuestColumns/Bryant20030919.shtml )

God forbid you should seek out someone who likes the Clinton's and ask their point of view; that would be insane.

Oh well, I suspect that the General will be asked about this a couple of times before putting it to bed, but I also suspect that he will put it to bed rather definitively--he can be quite forceful at times.

Bryant

1. It's constantly said by RWers
that Hillary's either going to step in this time or wants Bush to win so she can face an open seat in '08. These people are nuts.

3. the Clintons just can't win
No matter how hard they try to please the Right, they just can't triangulate it close enough - even if they were right of the Right.

4. Sorry, but this isn't a right wing invention
Fact: Clinton said Clark was the best candidate running. Fact: A number of Clinton and Gore people are now working for Clark. and Fact: Just a couple of days ago,Clinton floated the trial balloon in Monterey CA about the possibility of a Hillary run.
Now I ask you. What the fuck is going on? Why does Clinton first take on the role of kingmaker to Clark, only to seemingly be pulling the plug on him in favor of Hillary. This isn't a matter of chance. Clinton didn't suggest that Hillary might run, just as an off-the-cuff remark. He is way too smart a politician for that.
I think they are trying to derail Dean because he is doing too damn well for Clinton. This thing smells really bad, and it isn't because of Rush or the right wing this time.

5. Your facts are not facts at all
Clinton said Clark was the best candidate running? Please provide a cite.
Considering that Clark announced yesterday, and Clinton was on his way to Kosovo, when did he get the chance to say it?

There are a number of Clinton and Gore people working with Dean, Edwards and several other candidates. Where's the conspiracy?

Clinton did NOT float a trial balloon about Hillary running. He said that the decision to run would be Hillary's. How is that a trial balloon?

You've already been outed as a disrupter. You might as well leave.

6. You have disputed nothing
Clinton said Clark and Hillary were the two best of the Democratic Party. Well, Clark is the only one of the two running, you can say he thinks Clark is the best running. Objection debunked.
Odd that Clark is the tenth man in, yet so many Clinton and Gore people suddenly working for him and not someone else at this late stage. Objection debunked.
Clinton said in a speech in Monterey California that "New Yorkers would forgive Hillary if she had to break her promise to serve a full Senate term in order to run for president". If this ain't a trial ballon, what is?

You call me a disruptor? Bet a lot more DUers go for Dean than go for Clinton.

7. My theory
Every election one guy pulls ahead.

Since no one's perfect there then becomes the "anybody but the leader" candidate to stop what looks like the inevitable win by the leader.

Candidates fight to be the leader. They also fight to be the one still standing as the "anybody but the leader" candidate.

In this election, Dean has pretty much IMO taken the "leader" position. To me it's obvious that the smoked filled room types aren't happy with the eight other guys and their chances of being the "anybody but Dean guy", so they've convinced Clark to jump in and be the anti-Dean candidate.

It looks like he's been promised a whole bunch of high-profile endorsements too.

To me this looks like the party establishment trying to keep Dean from winning the nomination.

It could be because they want Hillary, but more likely IMO they think he will possibly lose badly enough to effect the Party as a whole in down ballot races. With open senate seats up in N Carolina, S Carolina, Georgia and Florida, I'm sure senators are watching the race carefully.
