I noticed a shift in things in my local newspaper today. Some brave souls are coming out of the woodwork to comment. From the call in column: "As long as there is greed for that black oil in Iraq, the troops will never come home."

"There's retired Gen. Wesley Clark, who has no political background, wanting to be president of the United States. On the other hand, we have a President Bush who knows little about politics and he wants to be a general. What kind of mess are we in?"

"Lets's see. We import more that half of the gasoline we use. People want to keep driving their big SUV's. The environmentalists don't want us to drill any more American oil. I guess we better stay friendly with the countries that do have oil that we have to buy from."

And.....the area just lost 940 more jobs yesterday.

1. I can say...

That the website I made for our district's Democratic Assembly Candidate is getting a lot more traffic than I first expected.

Now, whether that signifies anything valuable for the national scene, I have no idea...

2. My local paper has a feature called "Quickly"

People email or call in random cranky comments and they get printed anonymously in a column on one side of the page. Usually they're pretty focused on local peeves, but lately there have apparently been a lot of anti-Bush rants in QUickly because now they're running comments from people complaining about how unpatriotic all those anti-Bush rants were.

I live in a pretty small town in Indiana. Our economy was based on steel, which is rapidly imploding; also, a lot of people have family in the military and a few of the Iraq casualties have been locals. Doesn't help Bush.

3. Our communities are twins

Quickly is 30 seconds in our paper...that's where the comments come from. 300 of those layoffs were from an area steel mill. My hometown houses the local national guard armory. It is now deployed in Iraq. I think this is the beginning of negative comments in my area. Peace, cmd
