Today's Cheer Up Thread : Village Voice Letters
Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rice have said that Saddam played no part in
9-11. Why do 70% of Americans believe differently?

comments submitted Thursday, Sep 18th

Because most Americans are arrogant, lazy, and unwilling to put effort into finding out what's really going on. They just throw on the TV, or read whatever cut n' paste newspapers put out, and are satisfied. Don't forget, this is a country dominated by religion, race car driving, wrestling and reality television. This is a nation of people whose intellectual hunger is satisfied by quick, sugary soundbites. "If it's on the news, it's gotta be true..duh huh.." As an American, as a New Yorker, as a world citizen, I find this shameful. Wake Up, People! Seriously...

2. Uh huh. If it's on the news it must be true.
And it was on the news 24/7 for months. I'm sorry, I can't blame regular hardworking people who get home from their second job just in time to catch the late news before they crash for thinking there was a connection. If somebody lies to me is it my fault for believing them? This isn't the public's fault. It's Bush's and the media's fault.

5. The fact is...

All Bush and his team did for months and months was try and connect Iraq to 9-11.

How to get people to stop watching TV news and and start reading a newspaper is a problem that vexes publishers all over the country.

By the way, the cable networks are gaining audience share PROBABLY because the people are weary of reality based TV; ratings are down for Cable News programs, also.

(I edited this to fix a typo.)
