U.S. Daily Casualties 9/19/2003
As of Thursday, 297 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.
The British military reported 49 deaths. Denmark reported one. On or since May 1, when President Bush declared major combat operations in Iraq over, 159 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to the latest Defense Department figures.
Since the start of military operations, 1,263 U.S. servicemembers have been wounded as a result of hostile action, according to U.S. Central Command. Nonhostile injured number 316.
The latest deaths reported by U.S. Central Command:
Three U.S. soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division were killed Thursday in an ambush on the outskirts of Tikrit, Iraq.
A 4th Infantry Division soldier died Thursday after apparently touching a power line while clearing lines south of Ad Dujayl, Iraq. No new identifications were reported by the Department of Defense.
