2. I am a strong Dean supporter, but I see nothing wrong with Clark
supporters having such enthusiasm for their candidate. I remember similar threads about Dean and how disappointed I was when those threads were bashed. Please don't do this.

3. Criminy
I'm sorry it happened to the Clark supporters (don't get smug thinking it couldn't happen to Deaners, Kerryites, etc), but if that isn't an example of True Believers rejoicing in the goodness of the Messiah, I don't know what is.

5. Maybe not...
but the guys in that thread are getting played. Re-read the account of the General's day -- see if it doesn't twinge your too-good-to-be-true meter. I think someone's having a laugh at your expense.

9. My too-good-to-be-true meter is in the shop for repairs
It was broken by Dean's campaign. Have fun raining on parades.

nor am I anti-Clark or a Dean supporter.

14. i didn't think your post was anti-clark or pro-dean
Edited on Fri Sep-19-03 02:18 PM by disgruntella
Sorry. Sometimes when I post one-liners I end up looking like an ass. I guess that was Exhibit A up there.

I just think this kind of excitement is natural when a new candidate makes public appearances before his/her supporters. I referred to Dean's campaign because it generates that "too-good-to-be-true" excitement.

19. Thanks, disgruntella
I know you're tired of your guy getting whacked, we all are. I wasn't clear, sorry. As I said to Brian, I'm not goofing on the writer's exhuberance for Clark, I just have a suspicion it's not a real account.

12. No one is having fun at anyone's expense.
Some people just get a little too excited upon seeing their candidate in person.

17. Yeah, could be
Could be an entirely true account, who knows? I'm wary that it could be crafted to see if Clark backers fall for it.

18. It came from
someone who is a member of the Clark 2004 Yahoo group, which has been an integral part of the Draft Clark movement, and has been in existence for months now.

15. not trying to bash at all
and yes, it could happen to anyone...
A long time ago,I thought William F.Buckley was
the greatest...and George Will truly whitty! mia culpa.
but I digress,

It just struck me as a perfect example of
"drinking the cool-aid" with excrutiating
detail.

20. I remember a lot of people swooning over Clinton in '92.
It's called charisma, and if our guy lacks it in 2003/2004, we're going to be on the outside looking in in 2005.

Clinton had that effect on people. He could mesmerize, empathize, and relate to people. He could talk to anybody, anytime, on any subject. He could make any given individual feel like his/her views MATTERED to him.

Bill made a campaign appearance in downtown Louisville in '92, and my wife, who knew very little about him up to that point, went to see him. She actually got to shake hands with him and maybe "chat" for a total of five seconds. But she came home TOTALLY ENTHRALLED. In fact, I got rather tired of hearing how Bill was "the sexiest man on the planet!"

Clark is obviously no Bill Clinton in the charisma department; as many have said, we'll not see his like again. But Clark DOES appear to have a bit of the Clinton charisma. Kerry, no. Kucinich, I have no idea. Sharpton is a very charismatic personality. Dean? The Deaniacs would say yes, others might disagree, and I don't want to start yet another flame war.

21. I thought the small rally for Dean in SF a couple of weeks ago
was going to turn into a riot. I literally feared for his safety the way he was mobbed. I think the enthusiasm is good, no matter who it's for. It's been a long, depressing and scary ride since the selection, and we all need something to be happy and excited about.
