Did You Hear How Bush Intendes to Now Spin Iraq?........barf bags
First MSNBC had Nachman on who talked about how the news staff sat down and said, “gee, do we REALLY know what’s going on in Iraq?” He said the answer was “no” (what, their reporters over there can’t see and hear---nice endorsement for your staff, Nachman). He said they just weren’t reporting on what truly are magnificent things going on over there for 85% of the country. They cut to Arnot (the doc/reporter) in Iraq who was standing in front of a town that was lit up. Arnot was agreeing and saying that everything, in essence, is basically peachy-keen with just a few nasty interruptions (throw a tarp over those dead bodies when you are saying that, Arnot, so it doesn’t crap up your superb journalistic observations). They suggest we need new imbedded reporters over there with the brass at headquarters because it worked out so magnificently last time. I said hmmmmmm and turned to CNN.

On CNN I found out that Bush is coming under ferocious attack from the republicans because the Dems are being so successful in their blasting about Iraq and are taking over the public opinion of it. They are scared of how the polls are going. They want Bush to ‘do something for christ’s sake, you asshole’ (so to speak). He’s decided that we are now going to hear happy face news from Iraq and will be making sure we get the ‘positive’ spin. Obviously, our little whores at MSNBC have signed on....of course, CNN will be close behind. The Reich’s propaganda machine is revving up and movein’ out, folks. Iraq will be a vacationer’s paradise before too long in the eyes of the American people, guaranteed!! Maybe if it’s all so spiffy keen we could ask for our $87 billion back and request that these lucky duckies send US some money. I’ll bet the media is so happy that Rove finally gave them an idea of how to cover Bush’s ass and stuff the Democrats!

2. Yes, isn't it wonderful what's happening there?
That spin will never work because the networks, evil as they are, will never stop reporting American deaths and injuries (will they?). I think the spin will be that many nations are going to help us out, and there will be another terror attack or alert that they will use to argue that we really need to be afraid, not change horses, and spend more money to be safe.

5. Dan Rather tonight said something like ...
"We've been reminded to say that much of the country is peaceful."

6. hedda----wow
I heard in another thread that he put in that other parts of the country were peaceful or something like that; but the "we were reminded" is almost like saying "because the Reich Minister and the SS are standing 3 feet from my desk with a loaded gun"!!!!!!!!!!!

9. I heard it and it was odd, but I don't think he said "we were
reminded" but rather "we want to remind you." Still an obvious ploy.

7. they'll just start paying Iraqis to say what they want them to say
why not? They pay for everything else. Warlords, information, whatever.

From now on, trust no one you see talking on television, especially if they're a "news" person or an Iraqi.

13. I think they should start doing interviews with blackened out faces
and changed voices like they do with people who fear for their lives with guys who have come back from that hell hole. I bet they have a wee different view than the slacker in the White House and his evil minions.

11. Most of the Country Is Peaceful!
Yes, this seems like the propoganda pitch. I'd like to point out that anywhere there's a US troop presence, it's not peaceful. They keep saying "all the attacks happen in the sunni-triangle". Well duh. That's where the US presence is, so that's where they're going to get attacked.

21. If an RPG falls in the desert, does it make any sound?
Most of the country is barren. It's like those maps of the 2000 election, yep, wide open spaces like Republicans. They have a high approval among the demographics of livestock and dirt.

You are so right. I remember reading "How To Lie With Statistics" when I was in High School; it was a formative experience...

14. Bad news: the media attacks against dissenters were worse tonight.
ABC News' John Cochrane, media whore extraordinaire, tried to tear apart Ted Kennedy's two days ago about how the Iraq war was a fraud announced "in January" to the Repukes, that part of the money is going to bribe foreign heads of states (renamed "incentives"), etc.

NBC News reported on the restatement by the Brit reporter on the "sexed-up dossier".

Jesus H., why couldn't they tear apart the Bush-Cheney lies about the war, wmd, imminent threat, Rice's and Rumsferatu's "Werewolf" bullshit?

22. I just bought Iraqi real estate!
You can get some good deals now because, well, there're a lot of dead people who don't need their houses anymore.

Sure, they're fixer-upers, but there's a lot of cheap labor there.

And World Com is supplying the phone service, so I'm all set!

23. I noticed this morning..
Edited on Fri Sep-19-03 07:37 PM by grasswire
...that MSNBC has revived its "wall of honor" and is showing hundreds of photos of servicemen and women and gone back to adding new ones each day. Chrissy said "Our wall of honor is still standing..."

So how come they all jump when the Pentagon asks them to?

OH, and I noticed CNN's new graphic: "THE NEW IRAQ"....which must be a direct result of the order to be happy face.

25. That's pathetic
I always DESPISED that "Wall" thing on MSNBC. Exploit the troops and their families for fun, profit, and faux patriotism disguising militarism.

Cranking it up again strikes me as even greater exploitation, THIS time designed to hide the truth and Bush's falling numbers.

Truly horrible.

If everything is fine and dandy in Iraq, they certainly don't need 87 billion dollars. Spin away. It's not going to fly.

26. Maybe this is just wishful thinking
Edited on Fri Sep-19-03 09:12 PM by BattyDem
but I don't think "happy face news from Iraq" is going to work anymore. I think it's too late for that. I know diehard Bush supporters who believed everything he said because they "saw it on the news". They now know Bush lied and they're wondering why no one reported on the lack of evidence against Iraq BEFORE we went to war. In other words, they don't trust the news anymore. They are now doing what I've been telling them to do for months - they're getting their American news from Canada and the UK. They still say they won't vote for any of the Dems, but they're not voting for Bush either. :-)

edited for spelling

27. Battty--you know, I think the media would be wise to note that
in other words, if they try some pathetic shit like this, people will notice and turn on them. The wise network will say "bullshit", I'm not going to air your spin. I'm going to keep going in this direction of getting the true info out. These birds could risk a real back lash now if they start playing this game.
