Who is the next Clinton: Dean or Edwards?
Let's say either one wins the primary and the general election. Which do you think would be closer to Clinton in terms of policy and politics?

Hands down.

Clinton didn't believe in deregulation for electricity.

4. I agree! I don't get into this ..."so n so is the next whomever"..
And I don't like movies that say they are "a cross between this movie and that movie"...I like Originals! :-)

5. Oh, there will never be another Clinton......He was unique...as many of
our better Presidents were. I can't think of any similarities in Presidents in my lifetime or in what I've read....

They are "special." Good or Bad......they only come 'round once. IMHO!

6. back when I supported edwards, I learned that
what is successful or unsuccessful in the past wont necessarily be that way in the future. In this case, we don't need everything in clinton to beat bush. The triangulation, strategy, tactics we will need, but the exact type of charisma et al aren't as critical.

7. I strictly mean policy wise
Of course Clinton's personal qualities aren't going to be matched in someone else, I just mean his political and policy approach.

8. The next Clinton is probably...,
Hillary.

Dean is more like the next Al Gore, and of course, Gore was the next Clinton, but only before Clinton came along. Then Clinton was the next Clinton. For awhile, it looked as if Clinton was going to be the next Nixon, but now GW looks like the next Nixon, and Howard Dean looks like the next Jimmie Carter...wait, Gore was the next Carter, no, Gore was going to be the next Ford, yeah thats it.

Anyway, to answer your original question - Yes! Emphatically, Yes!

10. Clinton is one in a million. It will be a long time before anyone comes
close to Clinton.

I saw him on C-Span speaking at the Iowa steak fry, with the candidates behind him. First of all, the Big Dog looked great....he is THIN....secondly, if you look at the candidates (Braun, Kucinich, Dean, Graham etc) - they were in awe of this man.

12. Clinton is a politician
and not always the most ethical of men. He squandered opportunity and compromised on Democratic principles for political gain. And he was a sleaze.

13. so you're saying Dean ?
The thing about Clinton, and yes it comes down to his capturing the essense of being a successful pol, is that he could make people feel better.

People became more positive, started buying durable goods again when they had stopped doing it out of fear. FDR had the same effect on people as did Reagan, Kennedy and others.

Edwards has this ability as well. Dean does not. It comes from confidence but confidence without arrogance. That quality seperates Edwards from Dean from what I've seen.

14. It's Clark - Rhodes Scholars, Arkansas, both have charisma
after meeting him - people walk away fans and gush about him - like they did with Clinton.

I haven't been energized by a candidate like this since Clinton. I love Gore - but he didn't have the charisma abd the excitement.
