AMMAN, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Jordan said on Friday that
an unidentified gunmen killed a Jordanian security officer during an attack on a field hospital in Iraq. The official Petra news agency quoted Information Minister Nabil al-Sahrif as saying the security officer was killed in Falluja, west of Baghdad.
Witnesses earlier said U.S. troops killed eight members of a local U.S.-backed Iraqi security force and three thieves in Falluja on Friday. It was not immediately clear of the two incidents were linked.

U.S. soldiers mistakenly killed 11 Iraqi police officers Friday as they chased a car full of highway bandits toward an American checkpoint in a small town west of Fallujah, witnesses said.

One Iraqi man was shot dead and two others were injured during a protest outside a police station in the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah, the Italian central military command said on Saturday.
Italian troops were in the police station during the incident, prompting the Italian military to issue a statement. None of the Italians were injured.

Iraqi police fired warning shots into the air, causing some of the protesters to shoot at them and in the ensuing confusion three protesters were shot, the statement said.
One of the men later died of his injuries, but the injuries of the other two men were not life-threatening.

US soldier killed in FallujaSeptember 14, 2003
An American soldier has been killed and three more were wounded in Iraq when their convoy struck a mine in Falluja, west of Baghdad. The latest fatality comes as the US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, begins a visit to the country.
He flew in from Geneva, where he discussed the country's future with the other five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.
Those talks have been described as inconclusive, with the United States and France disagreeing about when a new Iraqi administration should be installed.

One U.S. soldier was killed in a rocket-propelled grenade attack while on patrol in central Baghdad Monday, the U.S. military said.
A spokeswoman said the soldier from the 1st Armored Division died in hospital after the attack at 1:10 am (2110 GMT Sunday). No one else was wounded, she said.
The death brought to 73 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in hostile action in Iraq since Washington declared major combat over on May 1.
Iraqi guerrillas have concentrated their attacks in the capital and the Sunni heartland to the city's north and west.

Two killed in government building blastSeptember 15 2003

Two people were killed and 15 injured on Monday after a powerful blast near the local headquarters of Russia's FSB security service in a turbulent region on the border with rebel Chechnya, Interfax news agency said.
The explosion occurred after a big truck loaded with explosives entered the premises in the newly established regional capital of Magas, an interior ministry spokesperson said in Moscow.
"There are reports of numerous casualties," Interfax quoted local interior ministry spokesperson Yakhya Khadziyev as saying.

TALIBAN CHIEF KILLEDUS forces in Afghanistan have killed 15 Taliban fighters including a senior commander, according the US military.
The fighting happened in the south of the country.

Gunmen assassinate Khaldiya police chiefMonday, September 15, 2003
Three gunmen, their faces covered with red and white Arab headdresses, assassinated the police chief of this Sunni Triangle town Monday in an ambush at a traffic circle.
Col. Khedeir Mekhalef Ali, 48, the Khaldiya police chief, was shot at least 25 times, according to his driver, who was wounded in the attack along with Ali's bodyguard. Ali was driving to his home in Fallujah, about 50 miles west of Baghdad, when the assailants ambushed his vehicle as it slowed at the traffic circle.
The three attackers opened fire with a machine gun, shot one of the tires of the chief's car and then approached the vehicle and shot him, said his driver, 47-year-old Rabia'a Kamash. He spoke to The Associated Press at the Fallujah General Hospital were he was being treated for wounds to his head and shoulder.

An Albanian coalition soldier has been killed and 11 Iraqis wounded in a grenade attack in the northern city of Mosul, the US army said today.
"On September 15 a group of Albanian soldiers were attacked at 4pm (10pm AEST) in front of the city hall in Mosul when a grenade was thrown at them," said a spokeswoman.
The Albanian later died of his injuries, added Lieutenant Colonel George Krivo. Iraqi security forces later deactivated a crude bomb they found at the site, the army said.

A US soldier from the 101st Airborne Division, based in the northern region of Mosul, has died of gunshot wounds. "On September 15 a soldier from the 101st Airborne Division died of non-hostile gunshot wounds," said spokeswoman Nicole Thompson.
She could not say where the incident took place nor give any further information on the circumstances of the soldier's death.
One hundred and seventeen members of the US military have died in non-combat related incidents to date since the start of the war to oust Saddam Hussein some six months ago, according to figures provided by the army.

US soldiers killed an Iraqi teenager and wounded four other people when they opened fire in the center of the flashpoint town of Fallujah, an AFP correspondent and witnesses said.
The soldiers opened fire when their convoy drove near a house where a wedding was under way and shots were being fired in the air in celebration, said a reporter in the town, 50 kilometers (30 miles) west of Baghdad.
Fourteen-year-old Sufian Daoud was shot dead and four people, including two women, were wounded, in the incident, which happened at 11:00 pm (1900 GMT).
The wounded were transferred to hospital in the town. Two cars were also damaged in the shooting.

India says it has killed at least 12 suspected Muslim guerrillas in separate gun battles as they tried to slip into disputed Kashmir from Pakistan. Indian army officials said more rebels were trying to enter Kashmir before winter set in, when the routes through high mountain passes would be blocked by snow.
Violence has soared in Kashmir in recent weeks, after tentative recent peace moves between India and Pakistan, which nearly went to war for a fourth time last year over the disputed Himalayan territory.
Police in Indian Kashmir say more than 171 people, mostly rebels, have been killed in separatist violence in the first two weeks of September. -------------------------------
US claims 11 Taliban killed in AfghanistanThursday, September 18
The US military claim its warplanes have killed 11 Taliban fighters in the southern Afghan provinces of Kandahar and Zabul in the past 72 hours. "There were no reported coalition casualties or damage to equipment," a US military spokesman said.
Over 100 rebels have been killed in "Operation Mountain Viper", mainly by air attacks by jets and helicopters.
"Operation Mountain Viper" was launched in August in response to the presence of hundreds of Taliban guerrillas and their allies in Uruzgan and Zabul provinces.

Four people were killed when a car bomb exploded in front of the home of a senior police officer in troubled eastern Afghanistan, a security official said Thursday.
Three bodyguards of police commander Ismael, who uses only one name, and a passerby were killed in the blast late Wednesday, the official told AFP, asking not to be identified.
The blast occurred in Ghazni, capital of the province of the same name, 120 kilometers southwest of the capital Kabul.

Attackers ambushed a U.S. military patrol late Thursday, killing three American soldiers and wounding two on the outskirts of Saddam Hussein's hometown. The assault near Tikrit came hours after insurgents ambushed two U.S. military convoys with remote-controlled bombs, opening a three-hour gunbattle in a volatile city 50 miles west of Baghdad.
The U.S. military said two soldiers were wounded in the Khaldiyah ambush, the latest in a string of attacks that has raised questions about the Bush administration's handling of post-war Iraq.
The three soldiers from the Army's 4th Infantry Division were killed when attackers opened fire with small arms in the village of Al-Ouja, just five miles south of the center of Tikrit, shortly before midnight Thursday, Lt. Col. William McDonald said.
The two wounded soldiers were evacuated to a medical treatment facility and the names of those killed were withheld pending notification of next of kin, he said.

A Fourth Infantry Division soldier died from injuries sustained while clearing low hanging power lines across Highway 1 south of Ad Dujayl on September 18 at approximately 3 p.m. The soldier’s unit was clearing dangerously low hanging power lines when he apparently touched a power line that was still active and suffered severe electrical shock.
The soldier was immediately given first aid and evacuated to the 21st Combat Support Hospital for further medical treatment but later died of injuries.

A U.S. soldier in northern Iraq mistakenly fired on a car carrying an Italian diplomat heading up U.S. efforts to recover Iraq's looted antiquities, killing the man's Iraqi interpreter, apparently because the driver wasn't following orders fast enough, the diplomat said Friday.
The Italian, Pietro Cordone, who is the senior adviser for cultural affairs of the U.S. provisional authority and the top Italian diplomat in the country, suffered a superficial wound in the shooting Thursday on the highway between Mosul and Tikrit.
An Italian foreign ministry official in Rome said it appeared the car's driver did not understand signals from the American troops, and that the Americans didn't understand what the car was trying to do. U.S. officials expressed regret over what happened, the Foreign Ministry said.

Three killed in Iraq mine blastsSeptember 20, 2003
THREE people were killed and four wounded, including a US soldier, when two mines dating to the ousted regime of Saddam Hussein went off near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, an Iraqi police officer said today.
The first mine exploded on the main road between Kirkuk and Lailan to the south-east as a car drove by last night, killing a man and his wife who were in the vehicle.
Their four-year-old daughter lost both legs, said local police chief Hashem al-Hamdani.
