Here's the next Democratic Cabinet Nomination Poll, this time for Secretary of State. As before, you can provide "write in" nominations by posting a follow-up message.

About the Secretary of State: Colin Powell is the nation's current and ineffective Secretary of State. The Bush Administration's foreign policy is in shambles, somehow succeeding in taking the world's sympathy and support after 9/11 and turning it into utter revulsion at U.S. policy. Without the support of friends around the world, the U.S. is less secure and will not successfully fight terrorism. The next Secretary of State must repair the damage. Nominees ideally will have extensive foreign policy experience and close personal ties to foreign leaders.

If you do pick one of the ten Democratic candidates for president, make sure you have an alternate. Winning the presidency makes that person ineligible for Secretary of the Treasury.

though I doubt he would accept it. But he has the foreign relations experience and is well liked around the world. A smart, capable, knowledgable guy.

14. Jimmy Carter would be MY first choice.

The world would see that there really is a genuine change in official Washington. He'd be a walking, talking "We're Under New Management" sign. Instant and huge credibility. Everybody loves him. Nobel Peace Prize Winner. Someone ALL sides would be willing to listen to. A globally-recognized man of peace and non-violent solutions. THAT is the face we should have on our diplomacy. And it would be especially healing for everyone, here AND abroad, after this pestilence we've visited upon the rest of the world.

6. The Sec. of State

is going to be dealing with the I/P issue.

Having got rather fed up down in the basement with Hillary's solidity visits to Israel in the past, and other things. Any Clinton is out for the Sec. of State job.

I want the I/P problem solved because I have no wish to be at war with the Arab world for the rest of my life, and to know while I am doing this that I am fighting on the wrong side.

Kucinich for Sec. of State because he has said things that leads me to believe that he would actually try to solve the problem as opposed to looking like he is trying to solve the problem.

I like putting a career diplomat in this post. Holbrooke has served us well.

President Clinton, who remains well respected overseas, is my second choice.

that the leading pro-Arab think tank in Washington, was recomending voting for bush* in the 2000 election, because they thought the Clinton-Gore administration was the most pro-israel there had ever been in the u.s.

I think bush* has proved them wrong in retrospect.

That is a GREAT idea. If Wes Clark doesn't get the nomination he should replace Condo Leeza. Dean as with Clark...HHS or Surgeon General.

19. Clinton or Carter

Both have good histories of relations with the international community. Clinton is respected around the world, much more so than Bush, and Carter has always been a huge champion of human rights.

Not to mention the cool precedent of having a former President as your Secretary of State. Has that ever happened before?
