why are some in denial about candidates and waffling?

politicians waffle. :eyes:

they lie, they pander, they choose political expedience over doing the right thing. they make back-room deals and personally enrich themselves. they collaborate and play CYA.

yes, even ________! he did it, too! it's part of the job description if they wanna run with the big dogs.

to expect anything else is, unfortunately, dellusional. politicain have played this game for centuries.

(and yes, there are exceptions. but their integrity is a hindrance if they aspire to play in the big leagues.)

1. Because some are fanatical

about the candidate they have chosen. They don't want to think their candidate has ever made a flip-flop or mistake, so they either deny it or pretend it doesn't exist.

It's psychology. The same reason it's rare to see a person admit they made an error. How many times on DU for example when confronted with undisputable proof that they were wrong, do you see someone admit it?

2. It is a lack of maturity.

All politicians have to make compromises. They have to shake hands and smile at people they detest. It as often takes a lot of courage to do this than people give credit for. These people are serving politics not philosophy. All you can really do is look at their record as politicians.

For example, Ted Kennedy could have been a playboy. Or a Republican Senator. He chose to be a Democrat. And in spite of his occasional personal failings, his record is more on the side of working people than Bush. That's all you can really go by. Kennedy wants to keep his wealth. But he doesn't want to be a rich man in a poor country. Bush does. It is a very huge difference.
