5. Not everyone has the money to buy into XM if they've purchased
Sirius recently.

Air America knew they were screwing their Sirius listeners when they did the deal with XM, so f*ck Air America.

7. I can quote you chapter/verse on how to get 2 XM receivers for $99
one for home (Skybox boombox AM/FM/XM/MP3/CD/CD-R)
one for car (Roady 2)

you can sell the Sirius eq for WAY more than that..

20. And the service for cheap too? The receivers are only part of the story.
The worst thing is that I bought Sirius for my Dad who's a Dem out in the middle of a red state and he wanted to listen to Air America.

So that's me and him that I'd have to change receivers AND service for.

Definitely can't do that any time soon.

$12.95/mo for the 1st receiver, $6.99/mo for each additional... $20/mo for two receivers, same (?) as Sirius...

I almost got Sirius for Christmas this year for myself just so I could hear Randi clearly in my car. I would be very interested in how I could get that deal. So, share please.

34. XM Deal: two receivers for $99 (actually 2 for the price of one)
If you go to Best Buy, you can get the Audiophase SKYBOX for $99 (on sale for I don't know how long, normally $149). Self-contained AM/FM/XM/MP3/CD/CD-R

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6684661&type=product&id=1083711826691

Right now, XM is offering a 'buy-one-get-one-free' deal for a FREE Roady2 after you buy a receiver (normally $99) with a complete car mounting kit..

http://www.xmradio.com/doubleplay/index.jsp

you have to have the free Roady2 pre-activated and prepay 3 months FAMILY PLAN ($6.99/mo) service ($20). Shipping is free.

People are reporting getting the Roady2 in 10-12 days (not the 6-8 weeks disclaimer on the deal)

One for the home, one for the car, and after 3 months you can deactivate the Roady2 and sell it if you want (have to keep it active for 3 months).

No matter which receiver you get, you can STILL get the free Roady2.

38. "AAR doesn't have the Young Turks".....
yet.

XM is going to be moving Schultz and Colmes off 167 for the 2 hours of Randi they don't carry (and move Malloy up to realtime)...

would be silly to put 2 shows by themselves on a channel wouldn't it?

4. Yep me too and I'm way pissed still.
I'm staying with Sirius and Air America didn't give a crap whether they lost their Sirius listeners, so screw them.

I'm hoping Sirius can pick up Big Ed and some others that I'd definitely listen to.

6. 1st, Sirius (from words inside the business I hear) walked away from AAR..
I spent many years in the biz and I still have people I can talk to (off the record)

... second, obviously you don't listen to Sirius much.. Schultz IS ALREADY ON SIRIUS and has been almost from day one.

10. Not the way I heard it--from an XM insider.
BTW, I listen to the Air America channel on Sirius (at least I have been) and Big Ed's is NOT on that channel.

When Air America goes, I'll listen to Talk Left or whatever might take Air America's channel, if it's good. That's great if Ed Schultz is already on another Sirius channel.

Another reason not to switch to XM.

30. I realize you didn't say that, but *I* in fact was talking about
listening to Air America on Sirius. If they already have Ed Schultz on Talk Left, then that's cool.

Do NOT call me a "Rethuglican" -- you were the first one to say you had "from words inside the business I hear" if I recall correctly.

You explain your "dropped log" first.

47. I heard that Air America ran to XM like a crying little baby
looking for mama when XM offered them some perks, and Air America didn't mind one bit kicking all its Sirius radio listeners to the curb to get those perks.

I also heard that XM is jockeying themselves into a position to try to buy out Sirius altogether at some point.

Any of the above false?

49. Well, let's flush it out with some more shall we??
1st, Sirius offered them bubkis compared to what XM offered (from what I heard, WAY WAY LESS, just for the programming... more like Sirius INSULTED them rather than 'crying'...)

2nd, XM dosen't have to do any 'jockying'.. SIRIUS is spending themselved into bankruptcy... just this year they've committed to $500 million for just FIVE pieces of programming...

Howard
Martha
NFL
NBA
NASCAR (2007)

and they are trying to buyout the second year of NASCAR's contract from XM so they can start next year.

and they had to have bandwidth for Howard and Martha (both XM and Sirius are limited).. so that's another reason they didn't try to fight for AAR.

That's a lot of money. Expect them to raise the sub price to either $14.95 or $16.95 before the end of the year (you heard it here first) if they are going to keep from going under... even the Market analysts think they are over-extended and are in trouble.

and the Howard people are gonna really be unhappy when he comes on...

four days a week (mon-thru)
four hours a day
10-12 WEEKS of vacation a year...

all the other time will be repeats...

that's for his FREE channel, for his other 3 channels he's programming for them... PREMIUM, EXTRA COST channels.

8. They really can't be faulted for this
They are going from 1 million plus (Sirius) listeners to 3 million plus (XM) - as a business deision they would have to be out of their minds to turn it down.

BTW, I have Sirius in two cars and at home, so I REALLY wish they were staying.

But I certainly understand - and I'll probably get XM in one car - and at home.

13. XM offered WAY more than Sirius....
- more money for their shows.
- state-of-the-art studio space inside the beltway in DC
- advertising at all XM Venues and channels

so from a business sense, it was the only sensible thing...

go with XM for exclusivity and get all of the above

stay with Sirius and get less money, no studio space, no advertising..

duh...

you gotta remember, AAR is a NETWORK, with a full roster of shows, Schultz is only 3 (and from what I hear he's pushing for 4) hours... easier to sell 3 hours to a station than 12.

It's a shame that there appears to be bad blood between AAR & Ed Shultz/The Jones Radio network.

They both are working toward the same cause: progressive radio that speaks truth to the right-wing power. I hope they can find common ground and work together.
