1. Heh - the thread title reminded me....
...Of Joe Bageant's latest at www.dissidentvoice.org.

"Many American liberals believe working class conservatives see them as the enemy -- that they stereotype liberals as a bunch of over-educated quasi-queers sucking down cappuccinos at Starbucks or spreading brie at a self-help book signing…or something like that. We can thank television for such ignorance....

...when the Democratic leadership shot its own feet off by nominating the sad sack John Kerry and neutering the approximately populist John Edwards. Yes, yes, I know it’s water under the bridge…but we need to learn from it. Overall, the Republicans won because the sorry assed Democratic leadership does live that foppy latte sipping, European vacationing, summer home, kids off at college, smelly cheese eating hundred dollar an hour lifestyle that the Repugs made such hay over..."

4. That's "Limousine Liberal"...
and was the scathing attack of the rightwing against such as Mayor Lindsey of NY, and sometimes Nelson Rockefeller.

There are and were many wealthy social liberals who rarely got their hands dirty, but did and do give time and money to social causes. It started back in the 60's when the rightwing got the working stiffs to hate the socialites who dropped huge checks for causes at their charity balls. Socialites who also chaired groups and became major rainmakers for some causes.

Then, there was Agnew's "pointy headed intellectuals" and other screeds against anyone with a brain or at least minimal education.

Worked pretty well. Now, far too many are convinced that the boss that screws them is the good guy, and the college professor is the simpleton.

5. Well, my pants ain't fancy, but..
if being able to spot abject stupidity at 50 paces, and being willing to label it as such make me an elitist, then I shall wear that title with honor and courage.
