"To hell with your facts! I've got patriot rhetoric to back me up"
Such a familiare pattern. Amnesty International releases a report on Guantanamo, documenting numerous abuses and illegal conditions there. IT's a thorough argument that the US is crossing the line in how it detains the terror suspects it holds at Gitmo.

Here's Bush's response:
The president, addressing a news conference at the White House, said the Amnesty document was an "absurd report."

"It’s absurd. It’s an absurd allegation. The United States is a country that promotes freedom around the world," Bush said of the report, which compared Guantanamo to a Soviet-era gulag.

And here's Cheney's 2 bits' worth:
"Frankly, I was offended by it," Cheney said in the videotaped interview with CNN's Larry King. "For Amnesty International to suggest that somehow the United States is a violator of human rights, I frankly just don’t take them seriously."

Screw your facts, buddy! America is moral, therefor I've now proved that nothing bad is ever done by Americans .

1. guess it was too much to hope that the mis-administration would
scream "Mea Culpa, we're changing our leopard spots and gonna stop being raging *holes"

yeah, that was too much to hope for... too bad they couldn't at least pretend to give a chitwhat the world thinks of us.....

2. When pressed further...
Bush said, "Applie pie, mom and baseball, with amber waves of grain!"

3. The Big Sleep
This regime knows most people...especially those who vote for Repugnicans, will never visit another country (other than a one night bender in Tijuana) and most will never encounter another culture. Xenophobia runs deep in these people.

They live with this dream that this country is perfect...everything it does is right and everything the government says is the truth. This happened in the early days of Vietnam as well. Meanwhile the majority sleep in this media-fed propaganda that this country is the most free and moral in the world. Maybe it was in some other era (I couldn't tell you which one), but it's definitely not that way now.

Of course, they pooh-pooh anything from Amnesty unless it serves their purpose. Watch these goons quote the same report, just the parts they want to paint North Korea or Syria or Iran as some evil regime...despite their abuses being nothing compared to the gulags this country now operates at Gitmo and in other places.

I keep wondering why the people kept there are soooooooo dangerous they can't be held at a maximum security facility in this country? I'm not even going to go into the concept of due process or the many violations of the Geneva convention in this place and many other facets of this dirty invasion. Those should be investigated in The Hague.

5. You forgot the best part of the conference

Starting with "These people are trained to lie. . .so we must be right. . ." then fade to scene where Bush talks about some elitist Oilman in Russia and Bush says "he didn't get a fair trial. People are suppossed to be innocent and proven guilty. . ."

Now I know I don't have the twang or the words right, and I don't know the russian situation too well, but it fascinated me that no one called him on the fact that the poor "brown skinned" people are automatically liars while the rich white russian is a victim of circumstance. . .

God Bless our president. *sarcasm dripping from my keyboard*

6. Who cares what they think?
Imagine a stinky slice of bad cheese like Cheney being offended by anything.

If Dick didn't take them seriously, then why the fuck did he bother to flap his crinolines in indignation?

It's either one or the other pal, it can't be both.
