Our supposed volunteer military
I heard a specialist say our volunteer military is probably the most discriminatory of any military sought to fight battles. These are mostly enlistees who sought service as an edge to get ahead from their own lower incomes. They did not have the comforts of having an education paid for them or a place in the family business. These kids and the stats will show that the U.S. is using the least fortunate to fight their wars. Yet another sign of a banana republic.

At least in the past, we had a draft.

3. The stats will be coming
Do you know or hear of anything to disprove this? I don't. Please share.

5. Not disputing it - seems quite valid to me.
Love to have some hard data available as ammo, if you know what I mean.

Peace.

4. Agreed.
The services cannot find those who will volunteer. I think they had more hopes than being cannon fodder and won't settle for that. They saw the writing on the wall. Or caskets at Dover.

6. In "Points for a Compass Rose," Evan S. Connell wrote. . .
To Edward Gibbon I am indebted for pointing out
that the inhabitants of a declining empire
could be lured into military service only by dread
of punishment or hope of profit, however miserable.
Obvious parallels present themselves.

Points for a Compass Rose (1973)
