Boy Scouts Lied About Black Members

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050601/ap_on_re_us/boy_scouts_blacks;_ylt=Ai6trjYKSd2W3tP.KvF706Ws0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA2M2YzbmJmBHNlYwN1cw--

An independent investigation of the Atlanta-area Boy Scouts found that the organization inflated its number of black Scouts by more than 5,000 in a program for inner-city youth.

The executive director of the Atlanta Boy Scouts resigned after the report was released.

Auditors said Scout officials assigned to inner-city areas may have felt pressure to demonstrate membership growth, which is a part of their performance evaluations. Membership numbers also are used to help determined funding from the United Way, a major Scouts donor.

Similar allegations have been made in Alabama, where the
FBI is investigating whether the Birmingham-based Greater Alabama Boy Scout Council padded its membership rolls.

america is a crime scene

I wouldn't let my child go anywhere near the boy scouts and all their troubles beside the above.

2. boyscouts
I was a boyscout in urban Canton Ohio in the late 1980's and I never saw a black boyscout.

3. My son has asked several times to become a Boy Scout
because he has some neighborhood friends in the scouting program. I've already had to try to explain how they discriminate against our religion and homosexuals.

*sigh*

4. I'm an Eagle Scout, but
I refuse to associate myself with the B.S.A., and my son won't be getting anywhere near a Boy Scout troop until the fascist fristians relinquish control of the group.

They constantly call me for donations, and every time I tell them that as soon as they allow homosexual scout masters I'll think about it.

5. Several councils have been caught fudging membership records
My son is an Eagle Scout and I am the Chartered Organization Rep. for the troop.

Several councils have been caught fudging membership records. A couple of years ago, the Circle Ten council out of Dallas was caught with inflated membership numbers.

Many council executives are judged on numbers such at number of scouts and growth. This is no different than wall street or public companies in some ways.

I believe in working inside the system. Luckily, I am a large urban District where the BSA rule on gays is basically ignored (we do not ask and don't care if any leaders are gay). I understand that our District has a number of gay leaders but no one cares.
