Have you guys seen what the credit card companies are doing, it is unreal.
First let me say I have not worked since 1995 due to back problems from a surgery I had. I filed for social security disability and it was denied, I got an attorney and he appealed it all the way to the top. It took about 2 to 3 years for all the appeals, each one took 6 months or more. I lost all my appeals, but the appeal board does not review your case, they only check to see if the first ruling had any mistakes in it. If the first person who ruled against you did not make any legal mistakes they just agree with that first persons decision.
So now I live with my retired 82 year old father who supports us both, he lives on a small pension and social security. Today I got a pre-approved credit card offer in the mail. I have no job, have not worked in 10 years, no income, no car, no bank account, etc. Yet they have pre-approved me for a Visa credit card.
Here is the good stuff, lol. They offered me a credit limit of $300, yes I said $300 fricking dollars. The company is called Aspire Visa, you mail the application to a credit card processing center in Cambridge Ma. They have a web site too, www.AspireYes.com.
The annual fee for the card is $150, the account opening fee is $29, and the monthly maintenance fee is $6.50 a month payable by the year at $78 a year. They add the $78 dollar yearly fee to your card after you make your first purchase.
That adds up to a grand total of - $257
But that's not all, You have to send them a payment of $20 before you can even activate your card. That is $277 for a $300 credit limit. And the interest rate is 19.75%, but cash advance interest rates are 25.75%.
Just for fun I called their 800 number, you guessed it, I got someone at a call center in India. She said do you want to apply for the credit card, her accent was so strong I could barely understand her. I said no I just wanted to tell you I would never apply for this scam of a card if my life depended on it. Then I told her I would never do business with any company who outsources their jobs to foreign countries, then I hung up on her.
What is stunning to me is that this is all legal, hell most of our congressman probably took money from these people. I am going to put this stuff in an envelope and mail it to Senator Durbin and ask him what he thinks about them sending this crap to disabled, unemployed people with no job and no income, and who have not worked in 10 years from a disability.
