I saw a comedy routine tonight that skewered Christian
Conservatives. Jimmy Dore was on the Comedy Channel and he imagined a dialogue with a fundie about the 5th Commandment( for Catholics, I am not sure what it is for other folks). Anyway, he has the fundie saying that he supports the War in Iraq and "Thou shalt not Kill" really doesn't mean that. Then he imagines a fundie supporter of the death penalty meeting Jesus and JC reminding him that He was a victim of the death penalty.
Believe me it was funnier than I write it, but I wanted to alert folks to Dore.He is pretty good.

1. Not funny
Fundies now believe that murder and killing are 2 different thinks. They won't kill but murder is alright.

3.  I am constantly amazed at people who stress a literal reading
of the Bible until they want to do something that is contrary to the Word. It is then the interpretations start.

5. And Christians wonder
Why non-Christians view them as a threat, crazy, or think the Bible is the most corrupt piece of "literature" eer written.

8. Do all atheists accept the mantle of Stalin?
See how that works? All kinds of bigotry are fun until you're the one subjected to it.

That's why SMART people do not paint with broad brushes.

9. Bigotry?
Shit, it's a fact. Freepers deny facts too. Sorry if I seem bigoted but when your family claims that not being Christian is tearing the family apart and 2 say I need to covert or die, you tell me Christianity isn't violent.

11. Umm - maybe it's because atheists have NOTHING to do with
Stalin, or a record of supporting him, whereas "christians" have a pretty darn good record of hate spewing bigotry against anybody who doesn't behave or believe EXACTLY as they do?

I think the "broad brush" has been richly and earnestly deserved.

But then you really knew that and are just trying to waste all our time, aren't you!

7. "Jesus was a Victim of the Death Penalty" is NOT bashing Christians.
It is THE TRUTH if you are a follower of the Christian Faith.

10. You know being Christian does not exempt someone from
honest criticism. And the point of my post and Dore's monologue was to underscore some discontinuities in what certain Christians say they believe and what, on the contrary, they support. I was careful not to generalize about all Christians but specified those who support the War in Iraq and those that support a literal reading of the Bible.I am a Christian and don't like it when TV constantly portrays Christians or any religious person as MASH did Frank Burns. That said everyone should be able to get by their natural defensiveness and rationally evaluate criticism rather than immediately resorting to the victim response.Especially when the group being questioned has a disproportionate share of wealth and power.
