Reid: Bush is still a liar
In an upcoming interview with Rolling Stone, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) re-asserts his reputation as an outspoken critic of the his political rivals.

In the interview, Reid claims that, "The nuclear option is history," whether Democrats filibuster or not. He goes on to explain that Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist was unable to take part in the compromise because he is, "Driven by ... right wing zealots".

On Frist, Reid elaborates: "I like him, but he hasn't been in government very long. ... Being a senator is about the art of compromise. That's what the filibuster is all about—it forces compromise. And if anyone feels that compromising is unethical, or immoral, then they should get in some other business—because that's what we do."

(snip)
Most likely to cause a stir, however, is an exchange that concludes the interview:

RS: You've called Bush a loser.

HR: And a liar.

RS: You apologized for the loser comment.

HR: But never for the liar, have I?

Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - how ever long it takes, the day must come when tens of millions of caring individuals peacefully but persistently defy the dictator, deny the corporatists cash flow, and halt the evil being done in Iraq and in all the other places the Bu$h neoconster regime is destroying civilization and the environment in the name of "America."

And why the fuck is anyone ever apologizing to Karl Rove?

Bush is a loser and a liar, and if Reid had half a spine he'd be talking up impeachment for high treason right now.

I appreciate Reid's comments. He has made some very cogent remarks about Frist and the work of the senate in general.

Now its time to press the issue of lying to the world about Iraq.

I love the way he worked "liar" in TWICE, without being asked. He made sure to dig it deeper with the comment about not apologizing for calling him a liar, too.

This is a shrewd, smart, savvy politico, and he knows how to work the press.

Thank you, Nevadans, for electing him. The nation owes you a profound debt of gratitude, even if some don't realize it yet.

21. Rep. Jim McDermott was tarred and feathered....
for saying that the Bush administration was "misleading" us into war with Iraq way back when. And now it turns out he was right all along and in fact he could have said it more strongly.

I listened to him on Air America the other day saying how he was shut out of everything and invited to nothing and interviewed by none of the media after his remarks.

We need a big and loud chorus all singing "LIES" in unison for all to hear until it is heard.

23. UBER cool!!!
It's outstanding to have these (however few) senators willing to stand up to the thugs running the senate. And for them, given their minority status, to find a way to stall the ambitions of the far right wing is spectacular IMO.

I think we need to keep applauding people like Reid and Boxer -- remember the roses that were sent to Boxer??? -- and supporting them so that OTHERS see that it truly matters what they do. It may help others to grow a spine as well.

In the meantime, we need to keep hammering those onboard with the RW extremist agenda with emails, phone calls. Keep trying to get through to the media. Understanding Life's great link to "Remind Us" is a tool for helping people wake up to the lies. Spread it far and wide!

Am I ever grateful for the people in this community!!!!!!!!!!!!!

28. Senator Reid's Lust For Collaboration With Republicans: An Example
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 11:27 AM by Itsthetruth
Senator Reid bragged about his leadership role in getting the anti-consumer bankruptcy and "tort reform" bills passed. Isn't compromise with our enemies just wonderful?

House passes bankruptcy bill
Measure will deter borrowers from erasing debt
By Tom Curry
National affairs writer
MSNBC
April 14, 2005

Bipartisan accord

The political curiosity here is that both Reid and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay — who agree on very little else — were both enthusiastically taking credit for the bill Wednesday.

"We’ve done a good job this year. In spite of the so-called partisanship, we’ve moved two pieces of legislation that have been around for 15 years, class action (reform) and bankruptcy," Reid told reporters when asked whether partisan animosity was slowing the Senate's work. Alluding to the bankruptcy bill and other legislation, Reid said, "We’re moving along well."

38. Tell me again...
...why not being able to easily erase debt is a bad thing?

Let me put it this way.... if we were to erase the federal deficit by simply claiming bankruptcy, your economy would collapse overnite. By holding true to financial discipline on the people we also make the big spenders of the republicon party be tested.

Besides, America has become obese feeding at the trough of free and easy credit, it was time for a restricted diet, eh?

45. Erasing debt under old BR not an easy thing, also, here's why...
people are being fucked by the new bankruptcy law: no medial catastrophe exemptions, no military exemptions, predatory lending is even more empowered, corporations given a totally free pass and rich jag-offs have so many loopholes that nothing changed for them. So, there are a few reasons on why the new bankruptcy law is a BAD, BAD law, Homer.

Also, allowing crushed citizens to crawl out from impossible debt (and the aftermath of BR is still no picnic), is hardly the same as a country declaring bankruptcy, you dope. If you want to instill some "fiscal discipline" how about starting with lenders looking for any angle to squeeze the last drop of blood out of the stone. People may have hung themselves with he rope, but it was more than freely given, it was pushed in a very over-marketed society. Shouldn't these predatory lenders shoulder some risk?

You're an ill-informed idiot and I hope I gave you some points to ponder besides “Tell me again... why not being able to easily erase debt is a bad thing?" mantra!

I hope that he builds up on his comments and continues to not be fazed by the ASSministration's attempts itimidate the Congress into buying into their agenda.

This is one Democrat who has balls and maybe the rest of the party will be inspired by him and get the guts to voice just how bad that the Bush cabal is. Maybe even start an impeachment in process. One can only hope.

35. Harry Reid: A "Strong" Senator For Who?
A strong Senator for funding Bush's war against Iraq.

A strong Senator for Bush's appointments.

A strong Senator for the Patriot Act.

A strong Senator for NAFTA.

A strong Senator for credit card companies, banks and other big corporate interests.

A strong Senator for Republican favored "tort reform" and other anti-consumer legislation.

A strong Senator who will work hard to reach a "compromise" agreement with "moderate" Republicans on social security cuts now that the "personal accounts" scheme is dead.

I wonder if the following corporate PAC contributions to Senator Reid had anything to do with his leadership role in getting the "tort reform" and bankruptcy bills passed in the Senate.

Na. Don't follow the money. Honorable Senators like Reid don't let corporate donors impact their decisions.

42. I Doubt It Will Dissaude Him
Reid appears to have figured out that >50% of this country is mad as hell and is ready to quit taking it. Not that he gets points for recognizing it, since that has been known around here for 4 years or more.

But, he sees that there are no benefits to playing the conciliation game and few risks to being a tough guy who calls 'em as he sees 'em. Good for him.
