that "fascist" was not a good way to describe the * administration. She also said that she studied fascism, maybe she missed the Mussolini quote in class. She has yet to mention the Downing Street Minutes! All I can say is "GRRRRR!"
On Edit: I guess I should mention, she is on C-Span Wash. Journal

1. I heard that. She mentioned growing up in Greece under Facism.
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 07:27 AM by CottonBear
I don't think that she meant that * is good but that * isn't as bad as the Facist Gov't. in Greece. She is a self-described progressive (centrist). We can't agree with everything she says, but I think she's doing well in presenting progressive views and bringing over moderate Republicans to our side.

I've started a thread here:

edit: Q: from a caller :"How do you kill a person humanely?" in response to a General Myers quote. She's discussing wounded Iraquis and soldiers and the huge # of wounded is more thatn DOD will admit.

Her personal e-mail addy: arianna@ariannaonline.com

2. Well, I know we do not have to agree with all of her views...
but the facts are the facts. These thugs are indeed fascists. In time, I would not doubt that they will become, every bit as bad as any other fascist government, past or present. I should point out that I do not "hate" her now. I just get mad when "we" do not point out the obvious, and call these bastards out, like we should. WHOOHOO! She is discussing Downing St. NOW!!!

3. "Proto-fascist" is the word I use
Where some of the symptoms are appearing and the desire of ruling elites is certainly to take us in that direction.

It's not fascism, but it could become so, and Bush and his corp. and theocratic backers aren't done yet. The setbacks in Iraq and at home only spur them on more. One more 9/11 and we are there.

4. They most certainly are anti-democratic
Meaning the Bush-administration and followers, of course.
So far I can tell, this is a proven fact.

The fascist term may be used, but people tend to look at history from a hindsight perspective, forgetting that fascism has a progress and timeline, and does not necessarily start with death camps and pogroms.
Thus they have a hard time accepting anybody not having a tooth brush moustace as a fascist.

Not that this version of fascism doesn't have death camps, when I think about it.

But in general, people (meaning: sheeple) tend to stare themselves blind on Hitler as the fascist matrix, and does not see the nature of the Bush regime for what it is.

Is that your paranoia talking, or are YOU the one who's interested in stirring things up perhaps?

7. I wouldn't go quite that far...
after all, her blog is not sabotaging us at all.

However... I don't trust her. Political conversions baffle me: during all those years of intelligent, thinking adulthood, she was just *wrong*???

I don't get it.

10. I think she is avoiding the name calling.
The word "fascism" is incendiary and distracts from the real issues.

Her conversion sounds genuine. I went through something similar myself (though I did it in 1966.) She realized the market will not take care of social needs and government must step in. Sounds OK to me.

BTW, I e-mailed her about the fascism, saying, you should know it when you see it.
