2. The two things that have helped shape my perception of the world
in the past few years: (Making the internet accessible to the general public is taken for granted, as well as search-engines)

1). Going to DSL a few years ago.
2). This Democratic Underground!!

Being able to tap into the collective wisdom (as well as some spirit-refreshing nuttiness) of this group is PRICELESS! Thanks for the above, and thanks to all the others on this Board.

I LOVE my DU!

3. What a great resource
Thanks for posting it!

I was talking to someone at work yesterday about Mark Felt adn they were giving me a blank stare look. I asked if they were familiar with the Watergate story and they said that they really weren't. It then struck me that they had been born years after all this happened. In fact, it strikes me that we have many 20 somethings that might not have a clear picture of what happened during that time at all. This would be a great way to give them the info that they need to understand that it has happened before (administrations that have no regard for the rule of law) and IS happening again.

Thanks again!

5. So Much Is Lost In This Story
Many think Watergate happened quickly. It didn't. It took over two years to play out and agonizing years they were. Monicagate lasted a tedius year...imagine it going on for twice as long. But that's only part that this marvelous archive can help put in perspective.

Watergate had a strange synergy to it. I still can't explain it or where it started, but once it did, it was determined to take Nixon out. Some can easily say it was the CIA or BFEE or some other conspiracy, but I tend to think it was a convergence of several forces all finding a need to bring Nixon to his knees and then when the rats were flushed from the holes, their own selfish interests that made them turn on those above who in the end would bring Nixon down.

The lesson is this could happen again with this regime if the right situations were to converge again. Once this regime is forced into covering up (and I know it has many times already...but this time with the glaring light of public interest and scrutiny watching) it's sure to blunder and the birds will sing.

Now we need two ingredients...a Mark Felt and a Ben Bradlee. I don't see either around. Do you?
