These stories keep popping up comparing Linda Tripp to Deep Throat, with the emphasis on trying to rehabilitate Tripp and make her disgusting behavior somehow "heroic".

They are in full "justification mode" about Tripp's actions.

1. Of course they are.
There is no creature that slithers on this planet that is lower or more loathsome than a republican.

To be a Republican in 2005 is to be a neocon. There is no way to seperate the two.

On top of that, to be a Republican is to be evil. Plain and simple, no two ways about it.

16. Well, the difference is well illustrated by the distinction between Nixon
and Bush/Cheney/Rove. Nixon was pretty bad, really bad in fact, but still managed to do a few positive things. But Neocons are evil. Aunty Pinko be damned.

4. Maybe Cat. But, I think the Republicans were genuinely afraid
of Clinton's success. Starr told Carville early on that they were "going to roll your boy." Was that out of revenge? Maybe, but it is hard to believe they are that stupid or petty.

7. Oh, of course they feared his sucess
which made them want to impeach him even more.

Their motives were two-fold. Clinton's sucess made them want to work even harder to tarnish and destroy him.

20. They went after Clinton because
he caused a MAJOR setback of their PNAC agenda. The day he announced he would run for prez, people were sent to Little Rock to start digging up dirt on him. The crap that has been going on for the last 4+ years was suppose to begin the year Clinton won.

10. Henry Hyde admitted that it was.
Straight from the slimeball's mouth.

The veteran republican is also admitting for the first time that the impeachment of Clinton may have been in part political revenge against the democrats for the impeachment proceedings against GOP President Richard Nixon 25 years earlier. *

"Was this pay back?" asked Andy Shaw.

"I can't say it wasn't. But I also thought that the Republican Party should stand for something, and if we walked away from this, no matter how difficult, we could be accused of shirking our duty," said Hyde.

13. Payback
Of course it was. Fortunately, the American people and most members of the Senate saw through it and failed to convict. But what's truly amazing is that in 32 years the rightwingnuts have only been able to find a lie about oral sex to avenge the pious and thorougly corrupt Nixon and his gang.

Absolutely stunning how these same holier-than-thou hypocrits are jumping at the chance to call Mark Felt a "traitor" and worse. Nixon represented the political arrogance and it's total corruption more overtly than any other president. Though the current occupant is giving Nixon a run for his money.

15. Get Real! They would of gone after Clinton no matter what!
Clinton was a democrat! If Nixon was never impeached the republicans still would of gone after Clinton or any democrat especially one as popular as Clinton.

After twelve years of republican presidents, there was no way the republican were NOT going to smear ANY democrat that would of been president...

And that goes for the next democrat too, if there ever will be one again....

Now that the republicans are getting their electronic voting machine placed everywhere in the country....The republicans count the vote and will decide the outcome.

32. yikes!!!!!
you're more than entitled to your opinion, however, I do think that Hyde's admission carries a lot of weight. Why would he admit such a thing? He certainly didn't have to. He could have kept that to himself. To me his admissions just verified what most people suspected.

Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 02:11 PM by LaPera
would of just left Clinton alone if Nixon hadn't been impeached?

That's NOT why they went after Clinton or any democrat...It's because the republicans are racist, sexist and despise all social programs and any kind of taxes, they hate helping the workers...all the things Clinton and Democrats stand for.

Nixon had little if anything to do with it...They had and will continue to discredit any democrat, to the American people.

Can't have Americans believing that democrat's are good for the people.

33. It's difficult to test whether your theory is correct, though.
It's also probably not wise to reduce it to one cause over another. You're right that the Repubs (at least since the 20th century) have been all about demonizing Democrats and disenfranchizing workers, women, gays and minorities (after a period of championing Civil Rights when the Dems were top-heavy with Dixiecrats). It's also important to remember that Nixon went down because he got caught in the act of ratfucking, his favorite hobby. You really do make a very good point.

But it's very difficult to know if the Republicans would ever have raised the blow job to the height of "treason" :eyes: if not for the fact that their boy had to turn tail and run out of office. Their boy is the only one in the history of the country who had to RESIGN! No wonder they keep saying "impeachment is forever!" Maybe it is, but resignation is terminal!

17. Of course it was
The really scary part of it is...that means they've been carrying around a belly full of hatred and bile over BEING CAUGHT FOR A CRIME THEY COMMITTED for 30 years.

What kind of mind does that? What kind of mind allows someone to commit a crime...and then harbor a viscious grudge against the victim for the next 30 years?

That's our enemy.

24. From a while back....
"April 21, 2005 — Republican Congressman Henry Hyde made some surprising comments Thursday on the impeachment hearings of President Bill Clinton. He now says Republicans may have gone after Clinton to retaliate for the impeachment of Richard Nixon. Hyde is stepping down after this term.

Hyde's comments came as he talked with ABC7 political reporter Andy Shaw about his 30 year in Congress.

In an exclusive interview, Hyde delivered a big dose of candor and some reflective second guessing. He said, among other things, he might not try to impeach President Clinton if he had it to do all over again.

Andy Shaw asked Hyde if the Clinton proceedings were payback for Nixon's impeachment.

"I can't say it wasn't, but I also thought that the Republican party should stand for something, and if we walked away from this, no matter how difficult, we could be accused of shirking our duty, our responsibility," said Hyde."

28. I think the real reason they had to take Clinton down was their
realization that his influence with the average citizen would go on long past his term, perhaps could forever influence how citizens view their personal responsibilities and possibilities in a democracy. Imagine him with a weekly televison/radio show where he just simply explained how the government belongs to the people and should work to the interest of the people, civics 101 every day. He would be our philosopher king. Not just ours, but the world's. He could have worked effectively to stop the culture of hate and fear. The fact that he is spending time with Poppy and Babs is typical of his response to enemies and although it is pissing a lot of people off on the DU, moderate repubs are noticing and questioning their view of him.

The hateful s.o.b.'s from the right watched as children and young people from day one, and to this day, run up to him - they don't want to shake his hand - they want a hug. They watched as people in Africa and Europe dropped to their knees and kissed the ground where his motorcade had just passed. How frightened they were/are of his possibilities.
