1. I missed something Fineman said. He said something about what
some Republican said to him off the record.

Did you hear that part? What did the guy say?

7. Fineman said
Fineman said that Bush was clearly wrong on WMD, but to show that Bush deliberately lied is a stretch. No mention of Downing Street in that context by Al or Howard....I found the lack of mention highly illustrative of Fineman's bias and wonder why Al didn't directly ask Fineman about that bit of evidence -- HAS to be a prearranged agreement not to bring it up with Howard.

Fineman also said that, to be fair, a lot of the world, including the UN, thought Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. (This is revisionist and not true). Al started to counter that argument when the conversation got switched to Deep Throat.

Except for a very few, people are tip-toeing around the memo like it doesn't exist.

25. "tip-toeing around the memo like it doesn't exist"
Except for a very few, people are tip-toeing around the memo like it doesn't exist.

Two very good reasons.

First, it's obvious to anyone in D.C. or in the press/media that if this is true and becomes common knowledge among the public, the conclusion and required action are inescapable: They impeached a president of the United States for lying about a sexual daliance. They have to impeach for this.

Second, less obvious at first glance but still pretty obvious. The media /press cartel completely failed, first, in not questioning the war in the first place and second, in hiding this and so much else from us for so long. The media is implicated as much as ChimpCheney. This whole episode brings as much shame and calumny on the media as it does on ChimpCheney.

27. Little Howie Fineman is a pussy. He never commits to anything, too scared.
He does the same thing on Countdown and manages to be condescending at the same time he's a chickenshit. He's just annoying.

5. Al should invite Senator Kerry onto his show on Monday 6 June 2005
Given the Senator's comments yesterday:

Thanks for posting the fact that Franken stated it the way he did. Many of us aren't able to listen to AAR given work schedules.

Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - How ever long it takes, the day must come when tens of millions of caring individuals peacefully but persistently defy the dictator, deny the corporatists cash flow, and halt the evil being done in Iraq, and in all the other places the Bu$h neoconster regime is destroying civilization and the environment in the name of "America."

9. So do Al and his sidekick.
They never fail to mention this.

I find T.O. to be like a babe in the woods. He always marvels so innocently about the bad people in government.

Wake up and smell the cynicism, Tom.

8. Franken and Fineman angst
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 01:31 PM by marylanddem
I just caught a bit of it - got the sense Fineman found Al's use of the "i" (mpeachment) word just too too freakish. That's the way people reacted when the Nixon impeachment began to happen. Unbelievable and then there it was. I think Fineman is afraid. Keep it up, Al. Bush is ten times as arrogant as Nixon but will fall just as hard.

22. I couldn't believe Fineman!
It is like all the evidence is there and yet he still says, no, he doesn't think Bush intentionally lied us into war. He actually said that "everyone" though Saddam had all these WMD! Even Al was frustrated with him, saying, but we sent the inspectors in and they didn't find anything and Bush didn't let them finish their job! He said he would get another vote fromthe UN and he didn't!

And Fineman was all, Well, I think he was mislead by bad intelligence.

12. No watergate.
Nixon went down because of congressional oversight finally caught up with him. It was a slow, looong process that built up over time. Today that mechanism doesn't exist. So Bush is safe.

13. Bush NOT safe
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 01:45 PM by marylanddem
Americans will gradually wake up to the fact that Bush et al. have sacrificed thousands of lives in Iraq for their own greedy ends, and when the Downing Street memo catches fire, they will press Congress to act. Anger builds slowly. Long, slow fuse. Impeachment will happen.

Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 01:49 PM by faithnotgreed
kept the story alive and investigated
but as tom oliphant just stated - it was only because congress got the ball rolling

although im not sure that congress wont do anything. it is up to us the people to keep this story out there
plus there are so many treasonous acts of this administration that one way or another it will come out. i cant know when but we can help make it sooner rather than later

23. Today's congress
has not done 1 thing ever that has forced the president to even veto it. (although we'll see about stem cells). It's really hard to believe that the sheep in congress will break ranks and impeach their own party. I just see no evidence for it.

I have very little trust in the people. The people put Bush in power, the republicans in the congress and have shown little interest in stopping the war. I think the last election showed people are mad as hell, but it turns out they're willing to take a little more.

24. No, Iraq is the new Northern Ireland..
(multiple ethnic groups vying with each other and with an outside occupying force all within the same nation)

and Downing Street is like finding the Tape on the Door at the Watergate, but not yet as powerful as the White House Tapes were.

Like England, we don't have the objectivity or legitimacy to resolve this issue alone -- bringing NATO into it will help a great deal -- and we have yet to reach the point where we have evidence of truly overwhelming power. Just remember, John Dean was "totally debunked" too - until the tapes showed that he was absolutely correct.
