I wish there was a way to kill this fad besides ripping each one I see off.

I wish I could carry around permanent stickers I could use to put the word "War" over "Troops" on each sticker like this I see, because that's what these idiots are really trying to say with their patriot kitsch. Fuck the troops, these ribbons say. Support the Neo-Cons.

6. I know someone who tucks greeting cards under the windshield wipers
of parked SUVs who have these stickers. It says:

"Thanks for supporting us. Your gas guzzling makes sure we'll be stuck in this hellhole long enough for your kids to get drafted and join us. Our blood for your full gas tank."

19. "Support Your Troops" = "Support George W Bush"
That's what they REALLY mean by those stupid-ass trend-ribbons. If they really knew anything at all about this war, they would see the irony behind driving the houseboat they slap those things on.

4. It should be "Support the Troops - Enlist!"
That would ACTUALLY support the troops, rather than just mouthing the words.

5. This is from a story about a soldier from Madison WI who died last week.
http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/local/index.php?ntid=42135&ntpid=2

"It is folly to say, 'We support our troops' when we're not giving them what they need for equipment. Our cars here have yellow ribbons of support for the troops, but there are not enough soldiers to fight this war. At this point it doesn't seem like a goal that can be accomplished," he said."

our troops magnet right on the gas door!

Just remember, the magnet eats the paint. That's how I get over it.

10. My experience has been that cars with Bush stickers don't
have support the troops ribbons. Really! I'm in the Dallas/Ft Worth area and I see either/or but not both. There is the occasional exception that proves the rule, but it is rare.

24. That's basically all we can do.
I pass by cars here in Texas all the time with those Bush dummy stickers on, but I ignore them because it is their right just like it's our right to have Kerry/Edwards stickers and so forth.

25. Of course.
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 04:00 PM by BurtWorm
But with a Kerry sticker, or even a Bush sticker, what you see is what you get. With these support the troops stickers, what you're seeing is one thing, what you're getting is "Shut up about the war!" It's very easy to stick those on the car and make yourself feel all good and holy, but what you're really doing is making an empty gesture that has nothing whatsoever to do with the troops. You're just being a sheep.

But there's no law against being sheep, is there?

getting a bunch of enlistment forms from your happy local recruiter, and putting a copy under the wipers of every parked car you see with either Support the Troops, Bless the USA, or a *Cheney sticker? Put their butts where their SUV's are...

27. My two cents...
Every time I see those things in the back of trucks and SUVs, it makes me wanna :puke:

There's also some green "support our troops" USO green wristbands I recently saw at a 7-Eleven. I wish I could throw them all in the trash.

To me, "Support the troops" = "Support the occupation" is what those damn ribbons are really saying IMHO!

Again... :puke:

29. I followed one home last night
It was huge and had the magnet plus a "Happiness is being a Grandparent" bumper sticker plus a big flapping flag. I had to see where this person lived. I was imagining a McMansion but they turned into a working-class neighborhood with tiny little houses. I guess they'll never figure out why they're living in that teeny little house.

31. On dailykos today
One poster came up with a brilliant point:
Is their support for the troops so weak that they won't even risk the paint job on their car to show their support?

Gee, considering that people are dying for Bu$hwar, the least you could do is risk a little paint chipping.

The average was 1 vehicle in 15 had a yellow ribbon. Usually the one vehicle almost always had more than one ribbon.
