17. Good choice
I am gaining a new appreciation for FDR and Eleanor.
Having watched Bushco push fear on this country and then use it to exclude so many and further enrich the wealthy, I realize that his is really a simple manipulation. A selfish response to fear is really to be expected.

FDR and Eleanor refused to exploit the fear that was rampant in the country then. They led the way out of the fear by fighting the whole idea of selfishness. They founght for inclusions. They really were extraordinary people.

7. Hope you don't mind a Canadian piping in, eh?
Muhammed Ali gets my vote.
He was such a great athlete.
He was a provacative & eloquent speaker.
He was fearless.
He touched people worldwide.
I wish he was able to take part in the current political climate with all the skills he once had.
He'd kick so much neo-con ass.

Ali Boombaye.

Betcha Jeb is pissed about being left off. And no Kerry? And what the HELL is Mel Gibson doing on there?!? Glad to see Hugh Hefner on there though...not sure why, but it makes me smile.

And for my vote...hmmm....Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR, Carter, Eisenhower, MLK, Carter, Bob Hope, Ali. And Helen Keller and Mark Twain because they're my distant cousins.

10. Who cares?
Most Americans have little or no notion of history and probably the greatest American is long since diseased. After all, there are far more dead Americans than live ones.

A 225 year popularity poll is not only useless but also doomed to be subjectively misguided. For irony's sake I hope John Kerry is on the list and gets 51% of the votes.

Quite a few notables missing. I looked and looked and couldn't find my favorites. Am I blind, or did they leave out Harry S. Truman? 'Cause that's asking for trouble.

Edited to add: Yes, apparently, Iris is going mad. HST was there.
