Iraq slipping from U.S. control
Link: http://www.typepad.com/t/trackback/2580026

Snip: <President Bush and Vice President Cheney need to get a grip on
reality. The happy talk about the "fading" insurgency in Iraq
ignores some harsh realities that bode ill for the future of U.S.
interests in the Middle East.
The truth is simple--we are fighting an insurgency in the midst of a
civil war. The civil war in Iraq is largely sectarian and pits Sunni
against Shia. The advantage in this case lies with the Shia, who not
only comprise the majority of the population in Iraq but are being
directly assisted by their Shia brethren in Iran. The Iraqi Shia,
while not a monolithic community, are cooperating with Iranian
intelligence officers. The Iranian agents are providing money,
intelligence, training, and hit teams.
Iran's specialty during the past 25 years was organizing
assassination teams that targeted opposition leaders. They are now
bringing this skill to the streets of Baghdad. In recent weeks there
has been a surge in violence against Sunnis who have not been
cooperating with the current Iraqi Government. Clerics are being
murdered.>

1. How can something slip out of control
that you never had under control to begin with?

7. Saddam had it under control...
... until poppy flip-flopped for a few koweiti dough. Of course, that (previous) madman was "terrorizing" a big crowd in his own "country", but that was more than 10 years ago, and never as much as the current criminal madman (*) has done, is doing, and intends to do (and not only "there")

:evilfrown:

End the BFEE criminal monarchy of the rich war profiteers!

3. Cui bono? (Who benefits?)
I wouldn't be surprised to discover some years from now that agencies of the U.S. government were involved in some of the sectarian violence.

As long as Shia'a and Sunni are at one another's throats, they will not form a National Liberation Front with a common goal of driving out the occupation. As such, the sectarian civil war benefits U.S. policy (such as it is) by allowing the U.S. to prolong the occupation\colonization program.
